nclex today!

Published

hey everyone...just wrote nclex today. computer stopped at 75. there was a lot of delegation, infection control, isolation procedures, prioritization, especially towards the end. i was hoping for ~ 90% multiple choice, but nope... many "select all that apply" "which statements indicates more teaching/intervention needed" etc. arrrggghh!

with the delegation, prioritization there were always 2 very close and correct answers. im hoing that out of the 75 that 15 of those were the experimental ones and wont count. very hard to prepare for these areas as generally the text books haven't caught up with how tricky these questions are and the content to study.

hoping i passed, but at least i'll know how to prepare for the next time. it was tough! :igtsyt:

thanks for saying that...we'll see...either way i will let people here know..and also how i studied for exam and what i would do to improve next time.

i'm hoping i'll know by tomorrow. but they told me 48 hours and that would be friday! but i'll still check tomorrow. ppl say that they check the BON to see? how does one do that i wonder...i'm paying for the quck check service, so either way i'll know by friday. i'm nervous!!!!!!!!!!!

Wishing you good luck.

i passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :redpinkhe:lol2::yeah::hrnsmlys::flwrhrts:

thanks to everyone here for all the kudos and well wishes :nurse: !! i am so excited and happy and already dreaming of my first travel nursing assignment!!! i couldn't wait any longer...i went with people's advice and did the pvt and that really eased some of my anxiety...but then i kept reading you could check the board of nursing website so i checked the site tonight that i was endorsing into...and there it was the result said that i "passed exam"!!! there it was in black and white!

i have been a member with allnurses for a long while and this site has given me lots of help at various stages so i have to thank this site for being so amazing. the people here are helpful and selfless and that's what makes it such a great site...i checked here right from the first step when preparing to study for nclex for what to study and how to study and stuck with it.

i want to just give a couple of hints of how i prepared for nclex and what i did/would do if i had to do it again.

. i used saunders book and it was a great review...probably would recommend it to nsg students in nursing school as a good overall book to study from for tests. i literally reviewed the whole book and did the practise questions. i started my weakest areas first: mother-baby & pediatrics and mental health, and then endocrine. i made sure to spend time on labs, iv gtt calculations, measurments, norm values, looked over norm lab values for meds like dilantin, dig, theophylline stuff like that. with mother-baby knowing baby lab values is a plus, i wished i felt more confident in these areas than i did going into the exam... then i studied everything else because i felt more confident with adult nursing...saunders is good cuz it goes through each area + questions, and then meds for each area + questions. very comprehensive.

if i had more time i would have:

reviewed each area twice...and my weaker areas three times...practise makes perfect. follow up with test questions espcially in the weaker areas.

tried to feel way more confident about lab values...its not hard to get them in your head, so take the time to learn them and feel comfortable...they give you a little erasable tablet at the exam so you can write them all down as soon as you sit down and then its right there in front of you and then you can focus on other things. cbc, lytes, coags, med lab normatives, baby lab values like for pku

really review mother-baby...i would say i tried my best, but more time would have helped...they dont pick ultra hard questions, i would say, but unless you review to some extent you could never be able to pick the right answer...fetal heart rate, fundal height, conditions like what to do/expect with various situations--cord compression, placenta previa, prepareing for amniocentesis, when to give rhogam. it was kind of basic but unless you study you really have no idea.

have a good cross-reference book that is just questions...this will help solidify the area of study..i did have a book like that i took out from the library, but really didn't have time to get into it in a big way unfortunatley.

feeling more confident with prioritization and infection control. without that, the test would become difficult. i dont have a reco for books in this area, maybe someone else does.

make sure to go through a good comprehensive book (like the saunders or whatever) so you can have a sense of all the areas you don't know/feel confident...without checking that you'll have no idea how to direct study. for me that continued to be mother-baby. after studying for nclex, i feel like i could deliver a baby all by myself--lol!! also by taking a quick scan, it helped me know to refresh in areas i thought i could do like the back of my hand, but realized i still needed to practices, like med math and iv gtt rates, etc.

specifically if ppl want to know more about how i prepared just pm me...i'd be happy to help. take care and good luck to all those writing in 2010!! you can do it!

congratulations!!!!!!!

Congratulations!
