The NCLEX is no different it all stems from the training and how it is done differently than other countries. The US training prepares them for the NCLEX the same as other countries training prepares them for their exams. Check out the NCLEX forum which you can find under the student tab near the top of the page. Plenty of study tips and study guides

Hi
I too am a foreign nurse.. I am doing the Suzanne plan in which you have to have the Saunder's comprehensive review book 4th/3rd edition and believe me its really good.. i dont have the latest edition but should be having it soon.. i did the Kaplan course, it is a bit expensive but it helped me understand how the examination is given here also helps you with strategies..

When I studied for NCLEX I heard the same rumour that it would be harder for foreign nurses.
But I don't think so. The problem foreign nurses might deal with is the language.
All you have to do is get some good study material and practice, practice and practice hard!
I studied for 6 months and studied 1-2 hours every day. I used 4 different books regarding NCLEX.
I passed NCLEX on my first time.

The exam does not distinguish as to who is foreign and who is not. The reason that the exam may be deemed to be harder is because of the differences in training, the different drugs that are used in the US from other countries, and for the drugs that are the same, they may have different trade names.
Laboratory values can also be different.
But the exam itself is not harder for the foreign nurse specifically. It is a computer generated exam and it will give you questions based on how you answered the previous questions, and it will focus on your weak points.
Average rate of passing for an American trained nurse is over 85%, and that for the foreign nurse is about 45%. But not because it is made harder for foreign nurses. Language also comes into play with foreign nurses in terms of their English skills.
