NCLEX 2018

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to share my NCLEX experience and recommendations. I will start by saying I took the NCLEX yesterday (May 31st, 2018), and PASSED! To my surprise, my results have already shown up on the WI DSPS OLAS application website.

Before taking the NCLEX, I had hies that I would pass with 75 questions. However, I ended up having 154 questions. A very important recommendation is to go into the NCLEX with the mindset that you are taking all 265 questions, that way if you get over 75 you won't get anxious. When I left the testing center I sat in my car emotionless, I didn't feel confident and didn't think I passed, but I did!

How I prepared and recommendations:

My school offered the Hurst review after graduating, so that was the beginning of my NCLEX preparation following graduation. I will say that during the test I did NOT think that the Hurst review helped, but thinking back I don't think I could have passed without it. The Hurst review provides an excellent content review, and it is important that you know this content to pass the NCLEX. If you know your content, you can critically think through any question, even if you've never heard of what the stem of the question is asking.

The next recommendation I have is Practice! Practice! Practice! Practice questions are so important to achieve NCLEX success. Do not just rake the questions, make sure you read every rational, even if you answer q1uestions correctly. I mostly used the PEARSON NCLEX test review book and online for practice. I did 100-150 practice questions a day the 2 weeks leading up to my test date. Keep in mind I had already done the Hurst review to ensure I had the content down.

The day before your test, I took 100 practice questions in the morning and left the rest of the day for relaxation. Many people say not even to do that and only to relax, so do whats best for you. I do not recommend that you study or take practice questions all day. Just relax, and you will succeed!

Congrats dear. Is it the Mary Ann Hogan comprehensive review for the nclex-rn that you used?

Yes, It was the Mary Ann Hogan Comprehensive review! Good luck to you!

Oh thanks. Did you find it helpful on the nclex? I would like to do more of the questions than reading the whole book. It is overwhelming to me. Did you finish the question bank? Thanks for your input.

hopetopassnclex,

I know that it seems daunting but your best bet would be to read each section of the book and answer the practice questions at the end of each chapter. And lastly take the comprehensive at the end of the book! Make sure to read the rationales even if you answered the question correctly, this will help for the actual NCLEX.

If you have already done a core content review ( I did Hurst) then I wouldn't necessarily say you should read all of the content in the Pearson book. I recommended brushing up on topics you struggle with. I did the Hurst review and for additional practice I did every NCLEX style question at the end of each chapter in the Pearson book, and the Comp at the end.

One important recommendation I have is to read the chapters in Pearson about test taking strategies and how to answer questions. The NCLEX has a certain way it wants you to answer questions in order for them to be correct. Start with that so that you have a general idea of how to properly answer the NCLEX style questions, and then Practice Practice! I say this becasue there were questions that I had on my NCLEX that I honestly didn't know the correct answer, however probably got them correct just knowing how to critically think through to determine the answer.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I'm glad to help! When are you taking your NCLEX?
