NCLEX shut off at 75 questions... Extremely nervous

Published

I took the NCLEX-RN today and it shut off at question 75. 13 select all that apply (I made tally marks in the corner of my dry erase board). I had a lot of prioritization and delegation questions but other than that I really can't remember what was on it. I'm scared that I didn't answer enough passing level questions correctly. Has anyone else felt like this? Wishing I was offered more questions as a way to prove myself. My brain is fried!!!!

First, let's talk statistics. The vast majority of US educated grads pass NCLEX on the first try- well over 80% of them.

Second, the number of a type of question is irrelevant. The fact that you got (and took the time to count) 13 SATA questions doesn't mean a thing. What matters is the level of the questions- whether they are above or below passing standard.

The test will shut off when it has determined that the taker has passed or failed regardless of how many more questions are given within a 95% confidence level. People who pass at 75 will pass at every number up until the maximum of 265. People who fail at 75 will fail regardless of whether they answer 76 questions or all 265. You weren't offered more questions because you'd already proved whether you met or didn't meet minimum competency to practice as a novice nurse.

Thanks for that info, but I was really wondering if anyone had ever felt the same as I did after taking it. I understand CAT.

I am in the EXACT same boat as you! I took mine on Saturday at 2:00 pm. I had 14 SATA and it shut off at 75. I also tallied mine up using the dry erase board provided  I felt that the test was way more difficult than I expected. We can wait together :nailbiting:
