Thank you for the advice!!
Question,
I'm a little torn. I have Question Trainer 6 & 7 left.. I'm 90% done with my qbank, and I have 1 week left before i take my boards. Most of my content review came from just reviewing the rationales (I wrote down all the ones i DID and DID NOT understand, and I have written 2 notebooks filled with rationales and always go back to review them), but from what I see here, a lot of people read Saunders from cover to cover. SHould I push back the test and give myself more time to review? I feel like I'm ready but at the same time, what if I'm not?
Any advice?

First time I took the nclex I used saunders and I failed. Next time I read the Kaplan Course book, did the qbanks (was only averaging 50-60s) and also some questions from lacharity and I passed with 75 questions. I did exactly what you did...I wrote every single rationales I understand and and did not understand and I went over it a couple of days before the exam. To be honest, I felt like I missed a lot of content/low level questions, but I believe the nclex is about how you are able to tackle the higher level type of questions and kaplan definitely helped me with this. Personally,I think if you took kaplan and totally understand the rationales and the idea on how you answer questions then you are good to go. Some people might have read far too much thru the questions that's why they fail the nclex. I say keep it simple, don't over think and whatever your first instinct tells you GO WITH IT. I did saunders too on my second take but just took additional info from it that the kaplan course book doesnt have. I say just use the saunders as reference for things you may need more information with but reading the saunders cover to cover wouldn't help that much. Good luck to ya!
wow jbreezyRN.
i feel like you read my mind! i really feel like i'm missing a lot of the lower level content as you mentioned. i don't want to change my study plan at the last minute so i'm going to stick what i've been doing. i'm also going to watch the kaplan videos that come with the course, review all the qbanks that i did AGAIN, review saunders for extra content help, do some lacharity, and go over meds. HOW DID YOU STUDY MEDS?? People say study it in classifications- which source is best for studying meds?
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT!!
studykittycleo,
all of us get burned out at some, and this has to be the biggest obstacle I had when I was studying. Its even harder if you failed the first time and you are studying for the second time having the pressure to pass the second take..here's what I did. when I'm reading my book, I make goals daily on how many pages I can finish for today. I'm a slow reader, I get distracted every time and its just hard for me to focus. Use a post-its or flags to mark the page you are starting for today and the page you plan on finishing for that day. I'm a slow reader I tell ya, I would read 5 pages in 1 hr (yes you heard me) but having these colorful flags just make you want to read till you reached the page that has your flags/post-it on. Give yourself a break when you read, like 5-10 mins and thats it! don't give yourself some excuse as to why you have to extend it (I know its almost like forcing yourself) Have some music in the background. This helps me for some reason, it really pumped me up! If classical music is your thing then go for it, but I like upbeat music lol.
I guess my biggest motivator of all is going to this website and just browsing thru the random fact thrower and of course the NCLEX thread. sometimes I wonder around the web, finding myself on facebook and youtube for countless of hours then I would snap to myself, and head to allnurses.com and I'm back again focused. Another thing... put your full name and put the title RN in the end. Doesn't that look soo nice? I'm sure it does! Because one day.. YOU will become ONE! Believe!
Good luck to all of you takers! St. Jude has helped me and I will be praying for you guys as well as to St. Joseph of Cupertin. :redbeathe

studykittycleo,
I didn't study much on meds, I just went by the classifications and my way of doin it is knowing the suffixes. Its impossible to memorize a lot of meds, you just gotta go with your gut feeling. the one i used was the mosby's pharmacology memory note cards second edition.its great because its more of a visual tool (im a visual learner) and it has mnemonics as well. i hope it helps!
Hello group
Just letting ya'll know that I will be taking the nclex tomorrow and I'm scared out of my mind. I have been away for awhile studying. I'm soooooo tired of studying.
To bring people up to speed I have been studying from lacharity, saunders, tidbits from the nclex thread, davis's q&a, and I did a 3 week course from the nscbn website. I did not purchase the questions I spoke of in a previous post. I felt that I was jumping for any and everything I find on the nclex.
Good luck to all who will be taking the nclex, we can do it!!!
I will post my feelings on the test and the results tomorrow, hopefully. Please say a prayer for me.
goodluck to you procrastin8r-RN !!!
i will pray for you & you're going to do GREAT. best of luck tomorrow!!!

hey there!don't get too caught up with scores. my overall qbank was 56% and I passed the nclex with 75 questions. focus on the rationales, read everything including the ones you got right on! I was pressured as well not getting so much 65% or above but I told myself its better that I understand why I'm getting certain questions wrong/right than the score itself. Good luck to you!
Thank you!!! and congratulations on passing your nclex... I sure hope I pass too!
