NCLEX-RN help..

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi, just to introduce myself a little. I graduated nursing program in NY in 2016 January.

I am sure there are people out there who is struggling much more than I do, but I too, am

struggling and very stressed out.

I have taken NCLEX-RN so many times that I almost completely lost faith in myself.

After I graduated nursing program, our school used Kaplan. Although I did all the questions

from the Kaplan, my average stuck b/t 48% - 55%.

I felt like I needed better explanation from remediation, which I thought and still believe

Uworld is more helpful, and very descriptive.

I have done ALL the questions from the Uworld and made myself notes from every single

questions and remediated carefully as much as I can.

I am thankful that I have done all the questions, and understand nursing materials so

much better than before. But I cannot stop doubting myself passing my next nclex-rn

exam because of my previous awful experience I went through.

Maybe it's because the way I study is wrong, but definitely something is not right.

For those of you who used Uworld to study NCLEX, was it helpful to you that Uworld

is helpful?

Now that I am done with all the questions and notes, what I am doing right now is

to study my notes (system by system), and then re-do the questions from Uworld.

For example, first, I would study Adult Health: Endocrine, and then once I finish studying

my notes on endocrine, I would go back to Uworld and re-do adult: endocrine questions

again. But honestly, I feel like there are so much material that my brain is limited to know

all those information and able to move on.

I want to hear some of your experiences, and how you were able to move on with your life.

I am honestly too stressed and depressed, and am starting to think I can never pass NCLEX which is embarrassing.

It hurts me to go through this as I am losing my friends around me who graduated

nursing program with me, and how much I am disappointing my family and myself.

If any of you can help, please share your wonderful experiences..

I'm sorry you're having a hard time but stop studying! I'm going to tell you what I told another poster:

1. Get different NCLEX books and sit down and do 75 questions at a time. It doesn't matter if you immediately grade them, the focus is to get your mind set for taking tests. NCLEX books are expensive but you can check them out at the library for free.

2. Once graded, if you got the answer right, great! If wrong, do you understand why it's the wrong answer? If yes, move on. If no, study the subject relative to that particular question only!

3. Study to understand, not memorize because the NCLEX is an application based test, you'll always fail with memory. You'll know you've mastered the information when you can explain the subject (whatever it may be) to someone else in your own words instead of regurgitating what the book says.

4. Do not study, take tests, look at notes, etc the day before you take the NCLEX. Example, if the test is on Friday, stop studying Wednesday by 8pm. Don't do anything Thursday, instead watch a movie, visit friends, etc, but do NOT review NCLEX material. Allow your brain to rest and relax. Also, do NOT under any circumstance review testing materials the day of the test because it'll only make you anxious and confused cause you'll try to recall what you just reviewed instead of having a clear mind.

5. Lastly, when you're testing, have the mindset of answering the questions as though you are an actual nurse, and the question's focus presents a real event or an actual patient. Answer in terms of what will you do first or right now? Read the questions 2-3 times to be sure you have a full grasp of what it's asking of you. Pretend you're in the ideal setting and you have all the staff and supplies available. We know it's different in real life but you have to pretend you're in the perfect enviroment and don't factor in "what ifs."

6. DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!!

That's about all I have. Hope it helps!

Number 1 problem here is that you don't believe in yourself. You obviously know the material, you passed Nursing school!!!! Don't give up on yourself, you've come entirely too far!

Second, find a different way to study. If just taking notes and doing questions isn't working, do something different. Do a quiz online to find your learning personality. Then go from there.

A few suggestions would be to watch videos on the topics that frustrate you most. Let someone else explain to you through video and maybe it will catch on better. When doing your questions, analyzing what you've miss should get you at a good stand point to know where to focus your efforts.

What are the top 10 subject matters that you're not doing as well in? I would love to help you personally.
