NCLEX-RN Exam!!

Published

Hello Everyone!

So I took the NCLEX for the first time back in July 2013, I got all 265 questions and failed the exam. I just took the exam for the second time in August, once again got all 265 questions and failed again. Very discouraging. (1) Has this happened to anyone else before? or know someone who this happened to?

From my understanding, if I'm getting all 265 questions, that means I have a good understanding of nursing content, but my critical thinking skills need improvement, (2) am I understanding this correctly?

If so, (3) how can I work to improve my thinking skills? suggestions?

I've been working with mainly Kaplan and took their review course, practice questions, etc.

(4) Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

I have heard of people taking the test more than twice. My understanding of you are getting all 265 questions and not passing then it could be not answering the SATA questions correctly. But you have to remember that the way the test is designed as you answer correctly the test questions become more in depth and require more knowledge and comprehension. If you get a question wrong than it defaults back to a less in depth question. The purpose of the test is to test your reasoning and critical thinking skills more than base knowledge that is why there are so many abstract questions. I used a book from Barnes and Noble than was designed around the 2013 test ad it changed in May. It also had online portions. It was very in depth and I didn't score as high as I thought I would in the practice tests and I also used the Made Easy NCLEX book and I did real well on their tests as that was more nursing knowledge. So between the two I got a well rounded study. Take a day or two off before the test so not too burn out. Remember you really can't sidi for this test as you don't know what will be on it. You can only prepare yourself on how to best answer the questions.

Did you use an online review? I recommend Hurst. I took the NCLEX today at 8am eastern standard time and have been getting the good pop up ever since. My exam had a lot of information on it from the Hurst core content. Like the "why" behind the assessment, complication, or implementation. Seriously 75% of my test came from the Hurst packet. I hope it helps. Please don't feel too bad. You conquered nursing school and you will conquer NCLEX. No employer is going to ask you how many times you took the NCLEX. They only want know your current RN license number. Please be encouraged.

Kerrynurse I have been reading your Pass post here and it helps me feel strong since I will retaking nclex next month and I am doing Hurst as well, still listening yo the audio online. I hope this review will help me too, please pray for me I need it so bad:(

Congrats again and Ty for the encouragements

You're welcome. I know what its like to not be successful and be absolutely devastated because of it. I spent 8yrs on and off trying to get into nursing school. Failing entrance exams, after taking all the prereqs. Each time I applied to another school, there were additional prereqs to complete. I was so frustrated. I eventually had to attend a private school and invest $27k for an associates degree in nursing. I almost lost my home while completing the 20 month program. However, finally I earned my ADN and passed the NCLEX. I will definitely pray for you. Its your time. Study, trust God, and pray. He will bless your efforts.
