Call your states BON and ask them. Im retaking my exam and picked a center an hour away even though theres one 15 minutes away, Im doing tha because I want adifferent environment for my second try. The centers arent huge, test times start at different times, so if yours at 8am your friends might be at 10 so I dont think it matters where you go.
The best tip I can give you is to relax the day of your test. Instead of letting the thought of possibly failing plague my mind, I thought about how great my life would be as a new RN and all the things that I want to do now that I am "taking my life back." I played my favorite CD on the way there, and was telling myself the whole time " I'm going to pass, and today my life will change. " When I got to the center, I was surprised at how calm I was before and during the exam. I actually started laughing once I saw the first question --- I couldn't believe I was actually taking the nclex. Remember 1) breathe, 2) stay positive, and 3) you have the knowledge. I passed 1st time in 45 min, 75 q. You can do it!! good luck!
You can take your exam anywhere that you choose. Where you take your exam is not where you're licensed though. You're licensed with the state that you applied to.
Also, do NOT go with your classmates. I believe that it would be distracting. For example, I took my exam yesterday. I had 75 questions and I finished in 1hr and 15 minutes. My friends and I went separately, but.....I had a friend who completed her exam in 3 hours, one who completed hers in 6, one who completed her exam in 5 and two friends who completed in an 1 and 1/2hours. Now if you'd all carpooled to the testing center together and the driver was the one who took the max.......you'd all be sitting there waiting for her. :0 OR if you were the driver and all of your friends left out of the room and you were stiiiiillll sitting there answering questions, you'd feel an awful lot of pressure to speed up. At least that's what I would feel.
Everyone is in the same room. You each sit at a cubicle, but you are able to see other people depending on how you sit. If you lean into the cubicle No, but if you sit back in your chair then you know and can see who leaves/enters.
There's a person that sits behind you in a room surrounded by glass and watches you take the exam. There are also cameras above your head and you will be audio recorded as well. Oh, and you can't even wear a watch into the room. I had to take mine off. It wasn't even a spectacular watch that did anything. It was $7 and I bought it from Wal-Mart. :0
The girl next to me wasn't permitted into the testing room because she was wearing a head scarf. She had to go to the restroom, take it off and try to do the best she could with her hair situation. If you're ok with a group thing, then go for it, but the NCLEX is not the time for a group outting. It's time for you. You have to focus on you. It's just not the time to have to deal with your friend who left her ATT and needs to run back to the hotel to get it. It's not the time to deal with your friend who is wearing a scarf because she's having a bad hair day or your friend that has to prove that she's wearing it for religious purposes. Not the time for your friend (Me) who had to take her WATCH off and remove $20 from her back pocket and go back and secure it in a locker, had to get a pat down because she wore a thick jacket because the testing center is cold. You get my drift..... Just go on your own. Also, your friends may want to test this Friday and you may not be ready until 2 weeks from now. It's just an independent thing and you and your friends can get together afterwards. Just my opinion though. Do what works best for you. :)

Hey guys I have some questions about the day you take Nclex. I have a listed test center outside my state but its only 30 minutes away. Can you take the test in a different state? And I was told not to go with someone from your class bc it can distract you. Is everyone in the same room when you take it? Any other tips that you can give me would be greatly appreciated :)
