2014 NCLEX 265questions "good pop-up" and passed

Published

Hi everyone

So yesterday I found out I am officially a Registered Nurse! I took the NCLEX on 4-24-14. 4 agonizing hours later and walked out of the testing center in tears because I truly believed I failed. Prior to the test, it was drilled in my head that students who get 265 questions have very little chance of passing the NCLEX. When I got to my car I tried doing the PVT and for the first 10 minutes I couldn't log in because I was too nervous to even remember my username and password. I finally was able to log in and I tried to re-register and I got the good pop- up. However, I was still bothered by the 265 questions and I didn't think I passed. I contacted a few of my friends who already passed the NCLEX and they told me not to worry because they all got the good pop up and they all passed with different NCLEX scores. BUT BUT BUT non of them got all 265 questions so I was still not convinced maybe I did pass... for the first 24 hours after the exam I slept only 4 hours, the rest of my time I spent searching online about the accuracy of the infamous PVT. The second day, after waking up I tried to reregister again and still got the same "good pop up" so I used that to give me some strength and kept myself busy. Finally, I was able to pay for the quick results and I found out that I did PASS!

Tips for those who are getting ready to take the NCEX:

DO NOT WALK INTO THE TESTING CENTER ASSUMING YOU WILL GET 75 QUESTIONS AND BE DONE! I did that and oh my god it screwed me up! When I started the exam, I felt confident and believed I will finish with 75 questions. I had 6 meds, 2 med calc, 10 SATA, 5 drop box, and tons of priority questions....so I thought okay I will for sure finish soon. And question 76 came and I froze.. I started sweating.. I stopped using the KAPLAN Decision Tree.. I just kept watching as the numbers of questions increased..100,150,200.. "I prayed god please help me, I don't want to fail" but when I reached 265 and I told myself, "yup I failed"..

If you are taking the test and it didn't stop at 75.. tell yourself "Good, I am given more chance to pass the test".. and don't panic, because it will affect your ability to think critically.

I remember every time I get a SATA question I get excited because in my mind "yes!! these are above passing type of questions and that means I still got a good chance"

If you end up taking all 265 questions.. pay attention to the very last question (I got a priority question). According to Kaplan, if you get a question that's above passing type of question (Analysis and Application) then you will pass even if you get that question wrong, but if you get an easy type of question then most likely you fail even if you get the answer correct.

Congratulations! Was Kaplan the only thing you used?

Mostly Kaplan..I used Saunders questions just as a "filler" bec since I did a lot of questions n thought I would ran out of questions from Kaplan (which I did)

I took mine on the 26th believe me its been 2 days and haven had the courage to even try the pvt even though results are out now. I ran out of time at 253 and it was a priority question. Im still nervous to check it out. While im reading this it gives me the courage to try and check my results. Coz i have the feeling i failed again. It was my 3rd take already.

I took mine on 4/24/14 also! I went for 4 hrs and got 265 ques also! I was like u...excited every time I got a sata...I was still in the game!i took the 2 scheduled breaks and stretched in the bathroom...drank water, ate a protein bar and looked in the mirror and said"let's do this!" :) this was my 4th time taking the test....weird because the date had 4s and I did it in 4 hrs and when I found out I passed...my RN license #begins with a 4 and ends witha 4!!!!! This is my new lucky number;) congrats to u!

Yup congrats! We are a good example to those who are abou to take the NCLEX that it is possible to pass NCLEX with 265 questions!!

I took the NCLEX 3/26/14 and I also got 265 questions and left thinking I definitely failed but I also passed. I actually think it's more likely to pass at 265 questions as they are still testing you, rather than just deciding you failed. Also, as people have mentioned, the questions get more difficult as you're doing better so if you finish on the difficult questions, it's a bit more encouraging. Also, everyone I graduated with did the "Pearson trick" and it was accurate for all of us. Good luck everyone!

Congrats, I took it exactly one week ago, LPN goes up to 205 and since its my second time I'm extra nervous about checking I'll just wait a !month for the mailed results

I just randomly stumbled on this post after I took the NCLEX recently because I reached 265 as well. A late congrats to you for passing at 265! It's very nerve-wrecking to go all the way to the end but seeing that "pass" is worth it! I just wanted to point two things that I disagree with. The amount of SATAs you get do not matter. I know a ton of people who passed with half SATAs on their exam but there are a lot of people who pass with less than 10. I had 265 questions but I only had about 14 SATAs and they could've been higher or lower level questions (I had no idea). Also, I don't believe the last question determines whether you failed or not. My last question was content based - something about cast care (or "easy type" in your words) and I still passed. I think the best advice is to not worry too much about the type of questions you are getting and to just do your best!

Sorry! I know this post was from a while ago but I saw that no one really commented on the myth of those statements you made. I would feel bad for someone who read this and got false information. Everyone has a different experience with the NCLEX and there are a lot of myths on the forum that can really throw people off. There is really no way of knowing for sure how you did based off of what type of questions you got until the official/unofficial results are released after the exam.

So i know nobody has written on here in awhile but thought i would try. i took my test today and had 265 questions. walked out feeling very discouraged i was wondering if the pvt works on saturdays with it not bein a business day? didnt want to try it if it was going to take my money! thanks
