Greetings,
I am an US Immigrant who went back to the Philippines to take up Nursing. I have just graduated this year and have applied to take the NCLEX. After 6 months I have received a letter from my evaluator that my nursing program does not qualify me to take the NCLEX because my clinical cases were not done concurrently under a specific semester.
(i.e. Some of my Major/Minor Surgery cases were done during the last semester of my 4th year instead of the 3rd year where the focus of NCM was on medsurg). But isn't this common in the Philippines? Not all cases can be completed in one semester due to many factors.
However, two of my batchmates have already been allowed to take the exam and we we're all under the same program and curiculum. We also were working on our nclex applications together and whatever documents my school sent my batchmates they also sent to me. Furthermore my school has already graduated students who have taken the NCLEX and are now RN's in the US.
I am wondering why I am being singled out. Shouldn't i be qualified when my two batch mates have been deemed eligible?
I asked my evaluator why this is so and she replied that the other evaluators might no have seen that error and she is now threatening to revoke the eligibility of my batchmates. Is this even possible?
I am at a loss and I need sound advice
Thank You

Im sorry to hear that.. Hope u can find answers to this...
There are a few threads discussing this and you could mention to the BON that you know of same class mates that went through the system but if they have recently changed their policy and you applied after the change and they applied before then that may be the reason

This issue is US schools require all this information, signed sheets from clinical placements. Some states even post the clinical placements online and track them accordingly. Every hour is accounted for.
In the US there is no accounting for minor, major cases, or cord care. Instead the clinical hours, the credentials of the instructor and the type of unit the students was placed.
What does not make sense is that some applicants passed while other applicants are asked for the required paperwork. Sometimes the BON will have you check the completed CEU required without documentation but later ask for a detailed accounting. We are told that they don't have the resources to audit every candidate and randomly audit cases. It is not an issue if you follow the rules.
Sorry for you, my guess is that you wanted either to save money or couldn't get into a program in the USA. In the long run, you get what you pay for. Long waits to sit for the NCLEX. A pass rate in the 30%. And always have the fact you were not educated in the USA.
Best answer is have your school pass in the documentation ASAP. If you clinicals were not done concurrently they don't meet the US criteria, US students can't sit for the NCLEX unless clinicals are done concurrently, the board is just holding you to the US min. standard. If that is the case, in the US they require you make up the course.

What I would do is to have your school explain why you had to do the OR rotation during your Level IV of nursing school. It is common practice in the Philippines to remediate for the OR scrub rotation after Level III of nursing school. I did mine in the summer before starting Level IV. Not all students are able to complete the required OR scrub cases during their third year. In fact, OR scrub cases are not even required in US nursing programs but that is a definite requirement to graduate from the BSN program in the Philippines. You had your Med-Surg clinical rotation in the wards (not OR) during your Level III right? That should be enough since Med-Surg didactics or lectures are spent in Level III in the Philippines so that is concurrent with your Med-Surg clinicals if you also did that in Level III (clinicals are called RLE in the Philippines).
