nclex-pn vs nclex-rn

Published

Hello everyone:

I wanted to know the truth about this test? I am going to be taking my nclex-pn in a few weeks ,and some people say there is only one test? They just give questions that could go for elder rn or pn ? For me that is confusing to study for? I have friends whom taken both and said that the pn test was about detailed stuffs, like steps, diets, not to hard you should know this stuff if you were a nurse aide also. Then I hear people say whom failed say it was so harder then the nclex-rn? I been doing question everyday, super tried of reading all the books. Does anybody have any feed back? Is there only one test?

Thanks a bunch

No there isn't only one test. There are two different tests.

I have taken both. The nclex RN was harder for sure but not impossible.

I thought the pn test was extremely elementary.

Specializes in Allergy and Immunology.

There is NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN. If you graduated from a technical or community college with a Diploma or Associates in Practical Nursing you will be only taking the NCLEX-PN. If you have graduated from a Hospital based Diploma program, Associates in Science, or a Bachelor of Science, then you will take the NCLEX-RN. Each test has categories of competencies or knowledge level categories such as patient safety and so on. They have a pool of questions from each category that you have to meet the passing standard to pass. look on the NCLEX website for the patient care categories. I hope this helps. Also for NCLEX-PN you can be asked anywhere between 85-205 questions and can pass or fail at any number. And for NCLEX-RN you can be asked between 75-265 questions.

I got the minimum questions asked for both tests. looking back the PN was easier.
