NCLEX-PN Application: Need help!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am having a heck of a time with the part of the application that my school is supposed to fill out. The director of my program won't do it and is making me fill out the form for him to sign, except that I have several questions. The board is evasive with me because they know this is the school's portion of the application, and I can't get any answers from my other best contact at the school because she doesn't know.

I would appreciate any help someone could provide with the following questions:

Pg. 1, section 10B:

1) 10B. Total number of theory/clinical hours which your school granted credit for "previous education".

  • Does this refer just to nursing courses or also prereqs that you had to take to get into nursing school, such as the psychology and "normal growth and development" course requirements?
  • If I need to include these courses from another school, can I just include both school transcripts? Someone at the board told me I'd have to get the other school to sign for those, which seems ridiculous since my nursing school already approved those transfer credits.

Pg. 2, section 6:

2) For anatomy and physiology, can I include both lecture and lab hours, or just lecture hours?

3) The form says you have to have 54 hours of pharmacology; however, my RN program where I did my studies requires only a 36-hour course. Am I screwed and have to take another course somewhere?

4) Is there somewhere in the list where I can include my nursing program skills lab hours?

5) Does the BVNPT actually run your DMV record? If so, how far back to they go? Is an at-fault accident considered a conviction?

Are you applying for licensing by examination for LVN by alternate method? (The NCLEX application is with Pearson Vue once given approval from the BoN and authorization to test). You are aware that if issued a LVN license by this method it is not eligible for LVN to RN programs, not eligible for employment in certain facilities (some facilities are required to prove appropriate education as a condition of accreditation) nor can the license be endorsed to any other state.

I know others have posted that they found classes that met the 54 hr requirement. Others have posted they were denied for not fulfilling this minimum hour requirement.

Well, yeah, I guess. I've completed three semesters of an RN program. Now I'm trying to get more clinical experience by becoming an LVN so I'll be more prepared for the 4th semester of the RN program, which has proved too trying for me.

Good luck if you are preparing for the fall semester know that the method 3 evaluations are backed up from what I've read, then once processed you have to schedule the NCLEX-PN which is similar but not the same as RN. Once you pass the NCLEX PN you need to wait 4-6 weeks for results then send your pass letter with $150 licensing fee to BVNPT. Then wait for your license to be posted. It could take 8-14 weeks from the time you submit your application for evaluation.

You may be limited as to who will be willing to employ you especially as a. 4th semester RN student.

Now I'm really starting to feel defeated. Why would they even allow the #3 option if you can't get hired with it? :' (

Some places will hire with it, the bigger issue is the lack of available jobs for inexperienced nurses. There is up to a 47% unemployment rate for new grad/inexperienced nurses in CA. The BVNPT does not concern itself whether you are hirable or if jobs are available they are concerned whether you are safe and competent to practice. Im not in CA but two of my employers required a copy of my transcript or diploma to show I graduated as a condition of employment as required by their accreditation agency.

But know you cannot endorse this license to another state should you move. And you cannot work for a federal employer (VA, military clinic, prison, etc) without being a graduate of an accredited program. This is clearly stated on the BVNPT website.

As an aside the application clearly states that your school representative whether director or registrar, NOT you, should be filling out the school portion of the application and including an official transcript with school seal in a sealed envelope.
