What I still don't understand is why if you fail your first time your chances decrease instead of increasing. From the NCSBN databank your chances of passing the first time are 82.65% and retakers are 40.14% for 2009. That does not make any sense. Your chances should increase and not decrease. Does anyone have any knowledge into this matter or way this is the case? Does that apply for the second time taking and not for successive times? I know statistics can be deceiving (at best) so I am looking for some clarifications.

I have been told that a loss of self esteem has a lot to do with the decreasing rate. Many people go in to re-take and they begin to over analyze questions and get them wrong. If you go in with a positive attitude, I am sure that will help, but most re-takers don't.
