NCLEX License Endorsement

Published

hi to all!

i just would like to ask, if i have my license already as Registered Nurse as I passed the NCLEX-RN exam for the state of California and planning to endorse it in New York, the question is, if my license for California is already expiring which is within 3 years time that still I can not go to California because I'm from Philippines, if I'm going to endorse it in New York will the remaining time of my California License credited to New York. Or, after I endorsed my license in New York, will it have a new status which is another 3 years time of expiration. Hope you understand what my point is

Thanks!

You do not have a license to endorse, you need to apply by application for license and forward your results from Ca to the new state. If NY then you have to go through CVS and CGFNS. You can have license in many states they are all independent of each other and to keep each one active you have to meet their requirements when renewing. Eah BON has their own requirements on renewing license and even when the renew is due. Some do DOB and some do odd or even year i.e. RN will renew every even year and LPN will renew ever odd year.

i passed the nclex for california. since i haven't work there yet, i cannot obtain my ssn. i plan to endorse it to new mexico. how do i do this? i came across the website of new mexico bon and the forms are so confusing, i don't know where to start.i think they need a license verification which i don't have since i haven't work in california..help! thanks in advance:)

Answered your other post. please do not post the same question in several places but ask the once and wait for people to reply

If you don't understand the NM BRN forms, then contact the NM BRN and ask them for help in filling out the forms. They are the best source for BRN questions. Sometimes they have a frequently asked questions section, check it out, your questions and the answers might be there. Good Luck

Dear All,

I have encountered the same problem and I m very confusing right now. May I please ask you a few questions regarding about my situation. I graduated in the Philippines and I wasn't able to take the local board due to my citizenship, it is not allowed foreigner to take it. Therefore, I applied for VT NCLEX, but my application was returned to me due to no license even though i sent an explanation letter to them. Thus, I decided to take CA instead because they allowed those people have no license, as long as your reason is valid. Fortunate, I passed CA NLCEX but new problem arise. As i know, Susanze said that if I don't have SSN I should not take CA but I have no choice, I know the complication without SSN.. Honestly, I encountered many problems along the way, but I still keep it up, positive thoughts.. As of now, I want to endorse my CA result to VT. Please tell me what to do, what should I submit to them? Do I still need a license or passed letter from Cali is enough? Please advice me, I m very much appreciate your response about this!

Thank you so much for your time to read my post!

Even though you took and passed the NCLEX-RN in California you may encounter the same problem when trying to forward your results to Vermont. You still must meet their requirements for taking the NCLEX-RN which requires you to be licensed as a foreign graduate. As you stated that you can't take the exam due to your citizenship which means that you can't take it because you're not a citizen of that country. Where are you a citizen of? Did you try to take the exam for the country that you're a citizen of? If you don't have a ss# then it means that you're not authorized to work in the US for whatever reason. Try obtaining licensure in your home country and then try back with Vermont since you will be licensed in your home country. See if you can go that route. Also keep in mind that if you don't have a PD for the US you're going to be waiting years at a chance at a visa and the important thing for you to do is to obtain paid work experience while you're waiting. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi There,

Thank you so much for answer my question, I came from Vietnam, there is no local board for nursing and there is no licensing as well, as long as i graduated from college then i can work as a nurse! I graduated in the Philippines and it seems that I was the only Vietnamese who studied nursing abroad, I have nobody to ask!

Desperately, I did everything that I could by searching online and looking into each articles. I was able to go thry with CA and passed NCLEX, now it turn to the hardest part! The licensing part... !!!

I don't know if nursing is the correct choise for me!

I'm very much appreciate your replied.

Sincerely yours

If you're able to go back to Vietnam and work as a nurse you might want to consider doing that as that's your only choice right now. At least you will be gaining paid experience. With retrogression in place it will take years to obtain a visa. It will be difficult for you to obtain a license in the US with out a ss# and also since you don't have a local license that's also going to make it harder as most states are now requiring you to have a local license before they issue a license.

Did you try to contact Vermont and explain your situation. You may want to do that since you don't have many choices at the time. There are a few other states that don't require a ss# for initial licensure but may require it for renewal. Go to each state board of nursing and see which ones don't require one. Good Luck
