hey guys, ive been studying my butt off for the VN/PN boards in california and i was wondering if you guys can give me advice and tips or anything thatll help me. Im already starting to feel the pressure. everytime i do questions :typing i get butterflies. im attending a refresher course for 3 days. hopefully that helps me. . .

Specializes in Community Health, Med-Surg, Home Health.

In actuality, there is no single way to prepare, but what I would do is attend the review course and then depending on how much time is left, I would break it up by studying a section a week, for example: (and make sure that you do questions in those same areas)

week 1: med-surg

week 2: pediatrics

week 3: OB

week 4: Psych

I would do at least 20 math examples a day, study the related disorders and medications and week #5, I would be reviewing all of the things that gave me a hard time. I did anywhere from 300-400 questions daily from various copies of CDs (such as Incredibly Easy, Mosby's, Saunders, Lippincotts and Delmar's. I borrowed the CD ROMS from friends, burned copies and gave them back immediately afterwards). I was always fast in answering questions, and I discovered that within two hours, I used to do at least 350 questions, so, I knew that I would not be in there for the entire 5 hours alotted to us. I did pass the first time, with 85 questions, out in about 40-45 minutes.

Make sure that you go to the test site to see where it is, DO NOT study at least two days before the exam (mainly because there is nothing that you can do at that point...by then, it is either that you know it or you don't, and it can make you confused, also) and eat light the day of the test-eat enough not to make you uncomfortable that day, not to be lightheaded, dizzy or unfocused, and not too full, either. I had crackers/peanut butter and ginger ale to settle my stomach because I was nervous.

Best of luck to you!

good luck to you. do not try to jam all the information on one day. your brain will not memorize that much information. maybe get into a study group will be beneficial.
