NCLEX by examination in Virginia: min 500 clinical hours?

Published

Hello. I finally finished my ASN degree last week! I'm getting ready to register for NCLEX in Virginia. I currently live in Alabama but plan to move and take my NCLEX in Virginia. The requirement for NCLEX by examination in Virginia is minimum of 500 hours of direct clinical hours which I might not have. I can't contact the school because they are closed until January. And I called the BON in Virginia telling about my situation and they said to just complete the online application and they will email the result and instructions then. I would like to know what documents they might need before I submit my application. I'm afraid I might get rejected and delay taking my NCLEX...

Does anyone know what happens if you don't meet the minimum amount of clinical hours? And what possible documentations they might need? Has anyone been in my shoes?! Help!

Thank you!

Gloria

Your school has to submit that information to the BON. Lots of things can consist of clinical hours. Lots.

I think you are worrying too much unless you went to some sort of non accredited, shady school. Schools are acutely aware of the amount of clinical hours required by your state.

Did you go to school in another state?

Never mind, I reread your post.

You just need to submit your paperwork and see what happens.

That's what I get for skimming a post on my phone.

I wish I can get in touch with my school and ask but they are closed due to Winter break. I'm even considering waiting until next month to talk to my teachers. My school is accredited through ACEN and NLNAC, so I even went to their website to see their clinical hour criteria. But I couldn't find exact hours. You can only apply for NCLEX application one state at a time right?

Thank you for answering!

If it's ACEN and NLNAC accredited, you probably have no worries. Yes, you can only apply to one state when taking your exam. After you get your license, you can apply to as many states as you can afford that you meet their requirements for licensure; you will get licensure by endorsement. Go ahead and get the information from Virginia so that you have a starting point for reference. Good luck
