NCLEX...same in every state?

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question....but is the NCLEX test the same in every state?? and if it is the same, could you just jump to another state while it is all fresh in your head and take it?

ok, so say I am in Indiana, and I want to move to Massachusettes, or Washington or Wyoming...whereever...after I graduate. What is the difference in the licensing tests between states? or is just that you have to pass it in that state so they get your money too?

From my understanding, the NCLEX is the NCLEX all around - same in every state. The only thing is if you are planning on moving to another state, you have to apply for licensure in that state. And from what I understand as well, some states may require you to take the test again in their state (not sure why), but I believe most will just require the application for licensure.

Don't mean to drag this on but...

so does that mean you just put in an app, pay and wait and then you get your license? that's it? and does that mean it's guaranteed (so long as you don't have any reasons for it not to be i.e. criminal or something)

That is the procedure but you also have to go onto the website www.pearsonvue.com and register to take the test and once you get your ATT number you can make an appointment.

If you've already taken the NCLEX and you want to move to another state, then yes, I believe that is the procedure...except for those few states that require you to take it again. My instructor named a couple, but I can't remember which states it was.

NCLEX is a national exam, once taken and your nursing experience is ongoing then when you endorse you do not have to take it again regardless of state. Some states do require a couple of courses before they will issue your license but you shouldn't have to take the exam again
