Published

Hello, I have completed 1 year pre-requisite and 2 years nursing course from canada. This course called Rigistered Practical Nurse. I also have 2+ years work experience on going in Canada. Can I sit for NCLEX and if yes how can I proceed with it. If any RPN from Canada went throug this, or any one else have idea, please help.

There is not a shortage of LPN's in the US and you will find for immigration purpose and the TN visa you will need to be RN unless you are receiving GC or other work visa via another route. To go through the process for licensure you apply to the state board of nursing and they will assess your application and transcripts to ensure you meet their requirements for foreign trained.

Moving this to the International forum and also changing the title to Licensure eligibility as not applying for NCLEX but licensure of which NCLEX is part of that process

As mentioned already by Anna in the above post; if you do not have the RN after your name, you are unable to get a visa to work in the US with the RPN, or the LPN.

If you already have a green card, then not a problem. Being licensed in the US, or even getting permission to sit for the NCLEX exam and passing it, will not get you a visa, and you need that to be able to legally work in the US.

There is already much written on this, you may just wish to do a search to find more threads on this same topic here.
