Kaplan or Hurst? which is better

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi everyone i was planning to do online review courses which one do u suggest kaplan or hurst review?

Also i really need a content review since it has been more than 2 years since i graduated from nursing school. What should i use for a content review and how long do u think it will take me?

Thanx

I think which course you take is a personal decision. What do you think will work for you? Saunders also has an online review too. One that is 4 wks, 8 wks and 16 wks.

I chose my course based on what I thought was comfortable for me. I really like Hurst. I started it on monday and I just finished the Med/surg section tonight. I've completed about 10 hrs worth of video's. I really needed content review and I'm under the impression that Kaplan is more geared towards test testing skills. They do have content review but I'm not sure how it's taught. I can only speak about Hurst. She goes over every body system for med-surg. There are also outlines you can print to take notes while you are listening. She interacts with you by asking questions and giving you senarios and asks what you would do. After completing the med-surg, I would say my understanding of diseases went up tremendously. She also gets you to be able to tell what is going on with your patient by simply looking at them.

I'm not sure about Saunders online course. Hopefully someone can talk about Kaplan better than I can. Good luck deciding and let me know if you need more help.

why has it been over 2 years? did you take nclex before or is this your first time?

I took Kaplan and I think they do a fairly good job @ the content review if you really study the book they give you, and (I did the online version) if you listen to ALL the online lectures. The content review is basically everything you learned in nursing school condensed. OB/Peds/Med-surg/Pharm, everything.

Just remember you will never feel totally prepared to take the test.

There is no doubt in my mind that Hurst review is the best out there! There are several reasons why they are better.

1. NCLEX is all Hurst does (Kaplan has their hand in everything)

2. Instructors all work as RN's in the hospital and are trained specifically by hurst. (Kaplan tells you to find an instructor and they will provide the material...i don't know about you but i don't want someone reading to me...they just soon give me the papers.

3. Hurst will never read to you...the lectures are fun, entertaining, humorous and cover the content that you need to know in the way you need to know it.

4. They guarantee that you pass! (kaplan may guarantee that you pass but that just means you might get your money back. Hurst will either give you your money back or work with you 1:1 until you pass. I don't know about you, but i just want a license...who cares about the 300 bucks)

5. The price is good. 350 for Hurst and 400 for Kaplan. Kaplan includes an online access. Hurst has one also for and extra 50 bucks they just don't force you to pay for it up front...it's only if you want it.

so that' s just a few things..for specifics check www.hurstreview.com

I just wanted to add that Hurst online is $225. If you go to the Live review then it's $350 + $50 for the online access.

I agree with TexasCCRN! My level of critical thinking went up several notches. Now when I do question CD's I consistently score in the 70-80's each time. I'm sure as the weeks go on, they will get higher because I haven't even finished the whole course yet.
