NCLEX- California

Published

Hello everyone! Sorry if I may sound ignorant with the question(s) I will ask, but can anyone enlighten me with the issues of applying as a registered nurse under the California Board of Nursing?

I've only recently gained interest in taking the NCLEX under the state of California..but I know there are issues with regards to it, but I don't particularly know what they are...can anyone share their infos?

BTW, I'm a RN in the Philippines, but I have a SSN (since I grew up in the States (particularly California as well), but I am not an immigrant, nor a resident) -----> FYI only if the issues are with regards to the SSN...

You can get an actual license because you have an SSN. Foreign graduate do not get their hard license because they don't have SSN. But you will still apply as a foreign grad.

Meaning to say, the only reason why nurses (foreign) are not that interested in applying under the state of CA is because of the SSN? is that right?

So there aren't any other issues with regards to applying under CA BRN?

The main issue with California is if you do not provide them with a SSN within 3 years they will delete your file which will include NCLEX results. With retrogression you are looking at much longer than 3 years. That is why we don't recommend Ca for initial licensure. You have a SSN therefore will not be affected however if you are allowed to sit NLE then you may need to as Ca requires a local license and we have had members post that Ca have been strict with this

Thanks for your replies..much appreciated.

I already have a local license here in the Phillipines. (if ever NLE ment, Nursing Licensure Exam here in the Philippines.)

well, convinced to apply under California, but the only issue I think is the more less jobs offered in California

I have help a couple of Philippines Graduate Nurses apply for NCLEX via Cali BON.

Neither had local license, and they wrote explanation to CA BON why they didn't have a local licenses.

I don't concur that you need a local license from PI for California.

Maybe you can explain why we have had members struggle because they did not have NLE and letter of explanation was deemed not good enough for Ca?

Do you run a nursing agency? It seems like you are "helping" many international nurses get licenses. Are you a lawyer ? Or a nurse educator? Usually it is the School of Nursing that assists nurses obtain their initial license.

From the California Board of Nursing http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/applicants/exam-app.pdf

For International Graduates:

A.) Send Breakdown of Educational Program for International Nursing Programs form to

your school with the Request for Transcript form. Also, provide the Certified English

Translation form to your certified translator if your transcript is not in English. (See

Supplemental Application Instructions for International Graduates.)

B.) Submit a copy of your license or diploma that allows you to practice professional nursing in

the country where you were educated. If you do not hold a license, a written explanation is

required. Also, provide copies of your certificates for midwifery and psychiatric nursing, if

applicable.

To me it seems clear, but I am not an expert in obtaining nursing licenses, I've only had one license for many years.

I remember seeing a couple post on her as well reagarding that.

I can only tell you what I know First hand.

In the last couple of months, I have assisted 3 student nurses from PI who are registering for NCLEX thru California BON. They submitted Explantion of why they didn't have local licenses, they were all her on K1 or K3 Visas.

California BON accepted thier explantion and they have been approved to take NCLEX

anybody here who know how to aplly for NCLEX exam? or anybody here who have NCLEX california form? can you guys send it to me? thanks in advance...

You are not applying for NCLEX but licensure to be a RN in the US. NCLEX is just a piece of the process

You need to apply to the state you want to work in and links to the nursing boards can be found at the bottom of the page. Unless you already have a immigrant visa for the US we do not recommend Ca for initial licensure at the moment because of retrogression. There is much on why so suggest a search and a good read on California in this forum

hello...gudafternOOn...I'm a RN here in the Philippines and i need to take nclex...but...

I do have some questions regarding applying nclex exam(california).. i hope anyone can give me some information..

first is, >how do i get an SSN??

>I have to register here (http://www.dca.ca.gov) first right?, before i can submit or request fingerprint card???

>and the fingerprint card, i need to request it, right? so it means that i have to wait it to be mailed here to me and then mailed it back to them with the rest of my requirements?

>Regarding the transcript, it should be MAILED directly by my school, right?? not from me,?

Thank you so much....really will be grateful to anyone who can help me..^_^
