Hi, I am applying for a nursing job in a NICU as a new grad. this next May in North Carolina. I am looking for feedback on the hospitals near my home- I'm going to school in NY so I don't get much feedback from them about places in NC. I am considering: Moses Cone, Forsyth, Baptist, Wake Med, Alamance, Duke, and UNC. I have a few general interviews set up already over the week of Thanksgiving. Any comments would be great. Thanks!

Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte has an awesome NICU. This is a large teaching facility and has an excellent reputation.I have a friend who works in the NICU there and she loves it.

Thanks for the info. My husband works in Greensboro so I'd like to be as close to there as possible and Charlotte might be a bit too far!

WHOA!! Charlotte would be WAY too far! I would recommend Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem or WakeMed at Wake Forrest. Both are excellent teaching hospitals. UNC Chapel Hill is excellent also, but is a bit further away. GOOD LUCK!! Welcome to North Carolina!!!

Cone is a very good facility. Likewise Forsyth and Baptist.

Alamance is a good, general hospital, and one that's doing a lot more specializing than they used to, and bringing in more medical specialists. I used to work there. It's maybe a 20 minute drive from Greensboro, depending on where in Greensboro you'll be living.

Duke, UNC and Wake Med would each be at least an hour away. I wouldn't recommend them (though they're all fine places) unless you had a particular reason for needing to be there.

Hey, thanks. Well, I was also thinking that we could live midway between RTP area and GSO if I were to work at UNC, Duke, or Wake Med. But I don't know how long term that would be.

There are a lot of people who live in Mebane:

when one spouse is working in the Greensboro area, and the other in Durham/RTP/Raleigh/whatever. It's a small city, growing, and close to I-85/40.
