NC CNA doing Med Aide in VA - waste of time?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Maybe someone could help me with a concern I have.

I currently hold my CNA license in the state of North Carolina & am taking a course in Virginia for training as a Medication Aide. The question I have is will the VA BON allow me to take my stateboards as a Med Aide even though I am not a Nursing Assistant in their state? I read online that the VA BON does not require one to be a CNA in order to be a Medication Aide. They only require that one have training in direct patient care or pass an approved NA course.

If anyone has any information that can be of help regarding this situation, feel free to leave a comment. Thanks so much. :)

Are you trying to take the Med Aide course in VA & then get licensed as a Med Aide in NC by way of endorsement? Because if so, I would check with your state BON to see if they'll accept it. I'm in MD & one of my classmates in my CNA program was also a Med Aide in VA. She wanted to get certified as a med tech in MD (med tech's are used in assisted living facilities here, and med aides are used in LTC), by endorsement, but the BON told her she couldn't do it. But like I said, check with NC BON first before you pay for a class in NC.

Also, if you are worried about them not allowing you to take the Med Aide class b/c you are not licensed in their state, I would just get licensed in VA. I don't think it cost me anything, except you do have to get the application notarized..and when I got mines notarized, it was only $2. I got my certificate in the mail about a month later. Good luck!
