Navy wife.. what state should I apply for license?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi everyone:)

I am living in Virginia with my husband who is in the Navy and am in the process of applying for my RN license and to sit for the NCLEX.. We will be moving to South Carolina late summer and I will not be working here in Virginia. My driver license and home state is Texas..

With that said, where do I apply for my license? South Carolina? Texas? I tried applying online to SC and when I put my permanent residence as Texas, it told me it was a compact state and I needed to apply to Texas. So do I put my future SC address and proceed with getting licensed there, or just get my Texas license, even though I will not be living or working there for another 5 or so years?

Definitely need some direction:confused:, thanks!

Since TX is the state where you would most likely end up should something happen or you and your hubby decide to settle near your family, or for any other reason, it is still your "home of record", I would get your initial license in TX and take advantage of the compact provision to work in whatever compact state your hubby is stationed in. You can rearrange matters as you move around. I always kept my driver's license, and important stuff with my home of record in my home state. It just makes things easier while you are moving around for the military.
