Navy Reserve Nurse Corps,,??

Published

Hey everyone,

I have some questions about reenlisting in the reserve as a Nurse Corps.

a.) If you are prior military, and you've done your time, and finish BSN school, Can u enlist again in the reserve area as a Nurse Corp?

b.) If you can do it, how long do u have to stay?

Thanks,,

You don't enlist, you would go in as a direct commissioned officer, with rank depending on experience years as a nurse. Also, there are some great incentive bonuses for reserve nurses, depending on your area of experience, but even general nursing gets one I believe.

There are others on here that are great assets to the forum...and hopefully you will also hear from them.

I am hoping to be Navy reserve in a few months, with a pretty good sign on bonus. $30,000 for ER experience. Just waiting for paperwork and the physical.

The other difference is that, since you don't enlist you do direct commission (if you have a BSN) and you go to officer training school, which is about 2 weeks, and that's it. No other boot camp. Then your weekend drill committment and 2 weeks a year. Deployable sometime after you finish officer school. I have heard different times, most say about a year after officer school.

Also, if you type in navy reserve in the search box, you will get a slug of good posts to read from.

Good luck!

Oh yeah, forgot to answer your other question. Committment is 3 years active reserve for sure, then 5 other years (either active or inactive)

Also, if you have school loans to pay back, they have awesome loan repayment bonuses (up to $50,000 I think)...you need a longer committment of active, if you take that route. Depending on how much you need paid back. Have a good day.

Thank you sir for your responsed.

So u mean if you choose to be in the reserve u still have to go in active duty?

I think reserve is better.Well, maybe I'm just saying this right now. I saw a bunch of messages here they were talking about how to go active. Perhaps Active duty is better, but I really want to serve in my community and still continue to serve my country.

-The idea is I want to finish my BSN after I get out of the Navy and then come back as a Navy Nurse Corps officer. I'm going to use MGI Bill and maybe TA:D.

Hi. Great posts on here.

Tons of helpful info. Anyway, my question is to those both in the candidate process and those already commissioned, for a direct commission into the Navy Reserve Nurse Corps are candidates required to take the Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR) test just like the AD candidates going into Navy OCS?

Thanks.

You don't have to take any test. All you must have is your BSN and have passed your state nursing boards. In other words, you must be a full-fledged nurse. Good luck with the process, it can take a wee bit of time.
