Navy Officer Nurse Corp

This type of career is a interest to me but I do have a few questions. What exactly is the description of a Officer? What role in the navy or any branch does the officer Nurse corp fit? What is a average day for a Nurse corp? Also is it true that the 1st three years you dont do any traveling outside of the states? As for as travel do you get to choose where you are stationed at 1st? San Deigo isn't really where I want to live. So could I choose somewhere else to be stationed? Also how many days a week would you usual work a week compared to being a civilian nurse?

lubdubRN,

My recruiter gave me the application in pieces. Just about once or twice a week she had me complete something. Like 1. security clearance 2. transcripts 3. forms 4. etc. ...... Then when I first met with her she gave me a check list. Even when she was like I think we are almost done I was able to look on the check list like I didn't do this....that....and she was able to follow up. I am on the end of my application process going to MEPS next saturday :D. Going to Portsmouth in December for interview. Good luck don't get overwhelmed it does take some time so get through the paperwork! Good luck :nurse:

from most of the people who are going to ODS in January looks like they were stationed at one of the Big three Bethesda, San Diego or Portsmouth. Congrats on all the new nurses!!!

Hi my fiancee has applied to the program and we are pretty sure that the package went to the boards sometime in early October. Have you heard of how the resuts are going or know any place that we could check on the status of the package besides through the recruiter?

any piece of info would be great ... thanks

the only person I know that could follow up is the recruiter unless anyone else knows.

Yup, the board info is pretty much isolated to the recruiter and the health care recruiting team..which unless you know somebody there isn't really a contact you make, you should be talking with the recruiter as the POC ;)

Hi everyone. I am currently i the navy and I am thinking about applying to the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP). Is there anyone that has done the program or know someone who has who can give me some advise and tell me a little more?

I am not familiar with it - but here is a link to a navy pub on it...

It all depends on when the board is meeting. When I originally submitted my packet there was supposed to be a board meeting the next week, which got postponed for 2 weeks. Once the board met, I got a phone call from my recruiter about 2 days later, although I was told it usually takes about a week for them to officially "select" you. The biggest thing is just getting the packet together. It's a pretty intensive process. Mine took as long as SouthernBelles' did, since I also started working on everything in February.

I am in the process of gathering my packet. I have filled out the clearance form (pheeeewww!!!) and have done the interviews. I have been cleared for a physical for next week Dec 18. My original recruiter meeting was Nov 10....I thought it has been going rather well and fast. My recruiter told me that it takes 90 days from the time your completed packet is submitted that you will hear a decision.....from the looks of your post, thats not the case...was she giving me worst case scenario???

confused and wondering:confused:

lubdub,

I would inquire at when the board date is - it should be 2 or 3 weeks max after the board from when you get results.. the board date is what you want to know... if you have your packet there you have avoided 99% of the 'issues' you hear people upset about. Then the board feedback should be pretty quick via a letter or verbal feedback from your recruiter.

I'd agree with that. Once the board meets, the results were pretty fast. My recruiter told me it would be a week, and it ended up being a day. It just took a long time to actually get my packet together, and then the board didn't meet right away. So that is the biggest challenge in the whole process!

Sassysailor,

How is it going for you?

Thank you Jordaa and Just cause....I will be sure to ask about the board meeting dates...I feel better knowing that its less than the 90 days I was told!! Oh one more question... the MEPS physical....you have to wait 10 days after the physical to request it to be placed with your packet? I am trying to weigh info given to me.

Thanks to everyone on this site!!!! This is a great resource and help!!

i'm curious too of the board dates. I only know when the next one is coming up. I'm trying to focus on some positive energy because I am getting anxious ready for my packet to go up. My recruiter keeps saying she wants my packet to go up before the last board meeting b4 the holidays. However, we are waiting on both my interviews to submit the forms. They both stated I did well but have not turned in the forms. One even went on vacation. :banghead:

So I am just trying to breath (wuuu---siiii) and hopefully they will get the forms in so my recruiter can submit it. I am preparing myself that If it doesn't make it in then I'm sure it will be in the first January meeting. If all goes well then I'm shooting for FEB ODS. That may work out better for me since January would be right after X-mas and my goal is to make it out of my grandmothers house without gaining a pound (huge challenge). That gives me time to eat a little red velvet cake and work it off in time. :heartbeat:)

I want to say that there is a board meeting dec 18th. For some reason that date sticks out to me.
