Honestly sometimes it can be an lengthy process to get your packet to that time. I would advice to get everything done so your packet can be one of the first ready for boards in october. I haven't heard anything about 2010 yet sorry. Good luck to you!

thank you. i have weight to lose and was trying to think along the timeline. figured the recruiters wouldn't give me the time of day, because i won't make the weight right now. but, i believe it was you who posted that the naval recruiter was the most receptive to you, and as a result you chose the navy and made the weight by your commission date. so, i think i'll contact a recruiter shortly and get the process started. thanks again...... :)

don't be scared to talk to them. some people not on this website but on facebook was like loose the weight first get everything in line and then start the process it would have taken me forever. if i would have listened to them. even my own husband was looking at me like :chuckle:chuckle. when i told him how serious i was about loosing the weight and getting in. now he is like i should have started with you. my navy recruiter says she should have taken a before and after picture. go for it. believe me if i can do it anyone can do it. try different things to see what helps you with the weight loss.

Just a question regarding weight and the application process. I have some weight to lose also and I am putting off turning in my packet until I do because I thought the physical was one of the first things one has to pass. Am I wrong on that? If so when exactly does one need to pass the physical? If this is correct then I am turning in my packet Monday. Thanks for your help.

Well, hmm....

I did get my physical at MEPS prior to getting my packet in. However, if I didn't meet the weight requirements my recruiter stated she could get a waiver which I would still need to meet my weight before graduating from ODS. Thats kind of tricky because it depends on how close you are to your weight and do you think you will meet it soon. I know several people on here are proably going to encourage you to meet your weight before turning in your packet.

Are you finished with everything else you need i.e, licensure verification, security clearance, referances, interview, etc???

Thanks for the reply. So far I haven not turned anything back into the recruiter. Since he told me the first thing I needed to do was get my physical. And I am nowhere near the weight they want me to be and I doubt I will ever be at that weight (I was enlisted 8 years and I never got close to what I was suppose to be, even after basic and I wore a size 3). But I am real close to the BF % for the army. ( I was thinking army but now I am looking into the others). But if I could just go ahead and start the process now, before I lost weight then that would be great.

I don't think I will make the actual weight either. I am meeting the BF%. Thats what I'm focused on the last time I weighed what the actual weight was I was in 11th grade in high school. Way your options with the branchs and see who can offer you the best. I would turn in everything you can and just let the recruiter know you are working on your weight. Is this the army or navy recruiter that told you about the physical first before you can do anything else??

It was an army recruiter that I talked to. I am going to go ahead and not worry about the weight thing at this moment. So on to which branch I want to join. Thanks for all your help on this, I really appreciate it.

I won't humor your with my army recruiter experience. I'm sure I've posted on here several times.

Don't feel bad the army recruiter I spoke with intially made me feel like crap and sent me on my way

to "Follow up with him once I lost my weight". :cry:

The navy recruiter showed me much love and had no problem doing everything and leaving the physical for later until I was ready to go to MEPS :bow: . She atleast gave me the benefit of the doubt that I was going to loose the weight and inches.

Hello,

I'm currently at ODS and am just checking in with everyone. We've been told that the rules for the PFA are being tightened even further. If we are not in standards (weight, body fat %) by graduation, we will not be allowed to leave. This means we'll be rolled in with the next 5-week ODS class, which would not be very fun. This only affects a couple people in my class, but as you can expect it puts a lot more stress on those individuals. Recruiters should be explaining the consequences to their recruits of not being in standards prior to arriving at OTCN. Also, if any part of the PFA is failed (push-ups, sit-ups, or run) we will be allowed to graduate, but a letter will be sent to our command explaining that we were not able to pass and need to be on FEP. Certainly, this will not give a great first impression. Just thought I would let anyone know who is considering commissioning in the Navy what is expected of them.
