Navy Nurse Candidate Program Summer 2013

I was accepted to the Navy Nurse Candidate Program back in January 2012. I will be graduating this coming August and hopefully be at ODS sometime next fall!

I just wanted to post and see if there is anyone else that will be graduating around that time on here. We have a pretty good Facebook group page for my School of Nursing class, and I think we should get one started for the NCP summer graduates...but we have to have people to add to the group to make it first!

Holler if you're out there!

Hey! I have been accepted into the NCP and will graduate nursing school in December 2013. I just sent in my duty preference form and was wondering when I should expect to know where I will be stationed.

Thanks

Devowesto - I graduate in December as well! I have emailed the accessions department regarding the duty preference sheet and I haven't heard anything back...when were you contacted to fill out the form? I still have yet to receive a form/dream sheet...to answer your question, I have heard we won't get news about our assignments until oct/nov, maybe later.

Hi, I'm a new grad with an ASN and about to start my BSN program hopefully in the spring of 2014. Anyone know when I should apply for Navy Nurse Candidate Program and how long does the process take? Any other info is useful thank you.

Nursjen08,

Once you have your BSN program acceptance, you can start the application process, as long as you're finished with your sophomore year. The process seems to be a bit lengthy, anywhere from 2-6 months or more.

Good luck!

Congrats on getting accepted! Sorry to change the subject, but would anyone mind sharing the Average GPA that the NCP selectees seem to have? I have a 3.7 now but fear that it may drop to a 3.6 at the end of this semester and don't wAnt it to ruin my chances! Thanks for any input at all!

I don't know if they looked at my cumulative GPA or my nursing GPA. I have a 3.4 cumulative and I think like a 3.8 nursing. I have a previous degree so they may have focused on the nursing but I'm not sure. Either way, I think a 3.6 is awesome :)

Thanks! I've been nervous because the recruiter hasn't said it was bad. However, I've seem many post on here with people having 3.9 and 3.8! That's really amazing for nursing school!

Is it too late to apply to the NCP ?

I will start a 2-year BSN program in August 2014, graduating Aug 2016.

Please advise.

thanks to all who serve.

I would go ahead and contact your recruiter now, if you have received your acceptance letter. I graduate May 2015 and I'm currently working on my packet. My recruiter informed me that I missed the board I needed to get the full two year benefit. Therefore, if accepted, I will only get the one year scholarship and maybe only 6 months of stipend.

It's better to start early than late. Contact your recruiter and he will let you know the timeframe that is best for you. Good luck :)

Sorry, but what do you mean by "1 year of scholarship"? Are they paying for school now to?

No not tuition. The way my recruiter made it sound was that I wouldn't go to the boards in time to receive a two year scholarship (meaning two years of the monthly stipend). I will only be eligible for one year since I graduate in 2015. He was just saying by the time the board sees my application I'll probably only have 6 months left to receive benefits (which is okay with me anyways) :)

Oh haha. I was confused!
