Navigating a Career Crossroads in Residency

Hello everyone,

I'm a recent graduate and presently in my third week of a residency program. However, I've been presented with an interview opportunity at the hospital I've always dreamed of working at. I'm conflicted because I feel guilty about potentially leaving my current position, as I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity, and I'm also concerned about maintaining positive connections as this hospital is part of a network. Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My motto is that it never hurts to interview. An interview is not a commitment. After the interview, you may have greater clarity about whether it would be best to stay put where you are, or if this is an opportunity that you absolutely cannot pass up. Just make sure you go into it without any rose-colored glasses.

I would go to the interview.

Out of curiosity, did you interview there as a new grad? If not, why?

Also, depending on the whys that one dreams of working at a certain hospital, it is very possible and maybe likely that it is not going to live up to the dreams/expectations. If one has heard many wonderful things from current RN staff about the way they are treated and regarded, then that's definitely worth looking into. If it's just more that a system is well-known/has some degree of self-promoted "prestige" that makes people dream of working at that prestigious place, I would imagine disappointment is somewhat likely.
