NAU- Tucson Traditional BSN (Fall 2011 Hopefuls)

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Are there any other's planning to apply to NAU's traditional BSN for the Tucson campus for this fall? I just moved back to AZ after a year in Iowa and was planning on doing U of A's 2nd degree program but since it changed to an MSN and the estimated cost is 40K I have switched gears. I actually just discovered that NAU has the Tucson program and I am so glad I did. My back up plan after I decided U of A's program was a crock (IMHO) was Pima. Since I already have a BA in English and Pima's wait is so long that wasn't an ideal situation either.

So, looks like I have everything complete except the HESI A2 and maybe nutrition. I'm just finishing NTS154 at Pima but it doesn't look like that class will transfer for the nutrition requirement. I'm going to fight that though because Rio Salado has a 200 level nutrition that uses the exact same text and has the same course outline as the class I just took at Pima.

Well - good luck to everyone. Maybe I'll see you in a classroom in the fall.

NomadMomma - thanks for PMing me the cpr info. I'll definitely be taking it through Desert Fire.

I assume you've already gone to it - I've never taken a cpr class before. How long was it? Were there many people that attended, and did everyone get their own dummy? Lol...sorry for all the questions, I'm just wondering since I've never done it before.

I did it this past sat. It was great. Took about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. We all had our own dummy for adult instruction but we had to share baby dummies. No biggie b/c we didn't practice breaths on the baby dummy. It was very low key. There were 13 people in my class. I thought the instructor was great. Oh, and I found out the cert. Doesn't expire until the end of the month you take the class- so if you do it in May it doesn't expire until the end of the month.

Has anyone on the alternate list heard back? I've tried not to think too much about it but it's starting to drive me crazy. I'm #5 on the list supposedly but still haven't heard a thing.

I called because I had to accept my offer into yuma but was wondering on tucson. Ii was told they only got to alternate 1. There is always spring.

Wow. I am surprised. I wonder how many alternates Flag took?

I just turned all my health and clinical documents in last week. All I have left is to buy books. I'm scheduled for classes on Tuesday/ Thursday. I guess the Wednesday lab is more preferred but I wanted Thursday because of my children's school schedule.

Looking forward to seeing everyone is a couple of months and getting started.

Oblivion how are things going? Did you do CPR yet?

Yes, just did it this past Wednesday. It went by quick! Took about 2 hours total, but the instructor was very good and entertaining.

The only thing I have left to do, is get my 2nd varicella shot and do my physical. So annoying, considering I already visited my Dr. last month and come to find out that this first visit was just a preliminary where they gave me my first Hep B shot and did nothing else. They want to me to get bloodwork done now, then come back for an actual physical which I won't be having til the 21st! Ridiculous. It's like, why didn't you just ask me for the bloodwork before I came in the first time? Geez. So I'll be right up on the deadline by the time I get to turn in all my stuff. Grrr....

O- that's frustrating. I had some issues getting all mine done too. My tb was positive so I had to do a chest x-ray ( it was clear). Then my heb b titer was low even though I took the series in 2008. Now I had to start the series over. The dr thinks that I may be a non- converter and that the vaccine might not ever create immunity for me. Uggg. But now it's all done and I'm gearing up for vacation. I hope the rest of it goes smoothly for you.

Thanks. That's too bad about the Hep B, but luckily you've already turned your things in. Have you gotten the scrubs/nametags yet? I find it odd that they didn't even mention how much the nametags cost on the order form.

oblivion- name tags for flag are $5 so yours are probably the same or close. i was advised to get 2 just in case one gets lost, otherwise your out of clinicals until you get a new one.

Penny said they took four alternates already. Vexis, you are the next one in line. Good luck. Pauline

For those of you accepted to the Tucson nursing program the third semester students started a mentor program to help us first semester students. They answered questions, gave advice, etc. I am in charge of the mentor program for the next year and invite you to join our facebook page so I have a way of getting in touch with you all and let you know when the first meeting will be in the fall. Please if you know anyone who got into the Tucson campus starting this fall give them the facebook page as well.

Thank you and congratulations!
