NAU- Tucson Traditional BSN (Fall 2011 Hopefuls)

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Are there any other's planning to apply to NAU's traditional BSN for the Tucson campus for this fall? I just moved back to AZ after a year in Iowa and was planning on doing U of A's 2nd degree program but since it changed to an MSN and the estimated cost is 40K I have switched gears. I actually just discovered that NAU has the Tucson program and I am so glad I did. My back up plan after I decided U of A's program was a crock (IMHO) was Pima. Since I already have a BA in English and Pima's wait is so long that wasn't an ideal situation either.

So, looks like I have everything complete except the HESI A2 and maybe nutrition. I'm just finishing NTS154 at Pima but it doesn't look like that class will transfer for the nutrition requirement. I'm going to fight that though because Rio Salado has a 200 level nutrition that uses the exact same text and has the same course outline as the class I just took at Pima.

Well - good luck to everyone. Maybe I'll see you in a classroom in the fall.

Sorry I don't . . .

I'm in!!! So excited to say the least, after being rejected from both of U of A's programs (which I have found impossible to get into, going through 3 different applications in 2 years).

I just turned in my contract today and now I just need my shots which I am dreading.

NomadMomma - have you gotten started on the process yet (turning in your contract, getting your physical/CPR/insurance)?

Congrats to you guys. I'll get there soon enough :)

Thanks jenbilla

Good luck to you for next time you apply. I have definitely been through my share of disappointment (and even almost gave up on nursing before I got accepted into NAU) so that's great that you're still motivated.

Congratulations! I'm so excited to "meet" another that will be in the program. Yes, I turned my contract in yesterday and went over everything. I have already done my fingerprints (mailed them off today). The Green Valley Sheriff's auxillary will do them for free (they accept donations though) and there was no line. I live down south - probably not convienent if you don't. I have been calling around about the rest and I have discovered that insurance won't pay for anything! Concentra Health will do the physical, titers, and vaccinations but it's going to be over $300 total. Hopefully I'll get it all done next week. I've already had the hbv series so I'm waiting on paperwork from my doctor to proove it.

So what do you think on the clinical days for 205? Even if I get my things turned in early enough to have a choice I'm not sure which I prefer. I'm leaning toward requesting Thursday because that gives me a break in between on campus days. The only draw back is that if we end up having to pick up/ research clinical assignments the day before that puts me driving into town on and "off" day just to do that.

Anyway, congratulations again.

ETA - I'm doing CPR at desert fire next weekend so I don't have to worry about it over the summer.

Thanks! Congrats to you too.

As for the lab days, I don't really care. I doubt I'll get all my stuff in to have first pick anyways. If I have it on Wednesday, then I knock all the classes out in 3 days and have a 4 day weekend, if it's on Thursday then I have that extra day to "study" in preparation for the next day. I don't mind having to drive back to school on Wednesdays if I do get the lab on Thursday. Thankfully the school is on a Frontage road, it won't take long to get home at all because it's so close to the freeway entrance. I do live kind of far from school (Ajo and Kinney) but the drive will be easier than back when I was driving to and from the U of A, I'm sure.

So you said you went over everything with the contract right? I assume you talked to ----? In case you didn't and you were planning on doing the TB test next week, she said it's better to do it after May 14 that way it'll be good for a a whole year (otherwise you have to take another one in January).

I'm working this weekend so I won't have time til Monday afternoon to research, but you may want to check on clinics around Tucson before getting the immunizations done at your doctor's office, just in case the clinics are cheaper. I was going to call the different clinics on this link under the adult immunizations:

http://www.pimahealth.org/immunizations/index.asp

I need all except the MMR. I had chicken pox when I was 3, but Joanne said the titer would probably cost more than the vaccines themselves and there's no guarantee you'll have enough antibodies, so I'll probably just get the shots done. I have yet to check with my insurance to see how much they'd charge for all the different immunizations.

Are you doing the CPR through American Heart Association (they are good for 2 years)? I was looking for some clarification from ---- on which CPR class would be best because the AHA website has a ton of choices and I don't know which ones are acceptable.

That's too bad about the fingerprinting - I paid for mine a year ago when I got waitlisted at the U of A. Oh well, at least it's out of the way.

Keep me updated on everything!

Yep I met with her. They'll sensor you on here for using names of advisors - just FYI. Thanks for reminding me about the TB. I doubt I'll have my previous records before then anyway but I had forgotten the exact date she had said.

So you mentioned you applied for two different programs at u of a - did you apply for the MEPN? I went to the info session but decided I wasn't interested in doing the program. The way the recruiter skirted the sponsorship issue and some questions regarding exactly what degree the program was going to result turned me off to the whole situation. My hubby graduated from NAU so we're a little biased already:)

Yeah, I applied for the MEPN. They actually used my interview that I went to for the MEPN, for the traditional program also. So there that went. I felt very out of place in the whole process; everyone that was being interviewed was much older than me, with a family, career, etc.

I had heard bad things about the MEPN (from this website's forum actually) so I knew that it wasn't a GREAT program to be going into, but I was just desperate to get into any program. I'm really happy to be in NAU though! Less subjective opinions and more looking at abilities.

Hello everyone!! Does anyone know how many alternates got in for the NAU-Tucson campus in Spring 2011 (last semester?

I had heard in years past that they can go pretty far down but I don't know an exact number. Try the thread for spring 2011. Maybe one of them will know. I don't think they took too many alternates this time around for the accelerated program though.

I will do that thanks. Im on the alternative list for Fall 2011 and im curious to see what my chances are. The wait is killing me lol :/

Contracts have to be in by the end of next week so hopefully they won't make you wait too much past that. Fingers crossed for you.
