NAU Tucson spring 2017

Published

Hi, I am applying to the NAU nursing program at the Tucson campus in September to start in spring 2017. I have a few questions for anyone who has taken the Kaplan entrance exam and the admission process. What did you use to study for the Kaplan? I went to the nursing info session and I was told the Kaplan study guide wasn't very helpful and to use other options for studying. Any additional information about the program or admission that can be provided would be a huge help!

Thank you!

Hey there! I'm a current nau flagstaff nursing student. I agree, the kaplan study guide wasn't much help. For me, I found that watching youtube videos helped. There should be a breakdown of systems for the a&p part. I just looked up those and watched a TON of videos the month leading up to the exam. I didn't really study for the other parts of the test because I didn't know how. After taking the test, I still don't know the best ways to study for them. The math part is pretty basic so I wouldn't stress too much about it. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi! I'm applying for spring 2017 Tucson admission also. When is your Kaplan testing date? The Kaplan isn't horrible, though the writing section is a little frustrating.

I am taking my exam on September 9th, just a few days away! I do well on reading and writing I am mainly worried about the math portion. I took A&P 2 last semester which is what I've heard the science portion covers so I've been refreshing on that.

Turned in my application this morning, I'm so nervous. This is the only place I'm applying (is the only program i want), so I'm very anxious for November when letters go out. Fingers crossed!

How did you end up doing? I'm also turning in my app today! I ended up scoring an 87 overall on the Kaplan with an 85 in science. Unfortunately I rushed through the writing portion and got a low grade there. I have a 3.66 gpa too. I am so nervous about this because Ive already applied once and I have only taken a few classes since then to up my gpa. I was an alternate last time and ended up not getting in, unless I wanted to live in yuma. Hopefully this time it's enough!

My Kaplan was only an 83 overall, with a 70 in science. Last time I got a 60 in science :( I will definitely retake it if I am not admitted this time. What were your scores last time? If I calculate my GPA giving every score equal weight I have a 3.77, but with science weighing more heavily I am not sure what it will be.

Hey Amiller27! I noticed we have similar scores on the Kaplan and GPAs. I received an 88 overall on the Kaplan and a 85 in science. And I have a 3.69 GPA. So there's a lot of similarities lol. What campus are you applying to? I'm going for Yuma since I live here anyways!

Hi Teacher 17! So for the gpa I take each prerequisite and the possible points are 4xhow many credits the class is. So like a four credit class is 16 possible. So your score is 4xgrade you recieved number so 4 is a 3 is b etc. So if you got a B you would have 12 out of 16 possible points for your class. You do that with each class then youadd up total points possible and then add up total recieved points. You divide the totalpossible/totalrecieved and multiply that number by 4. That's your gpa! Last time my scores were 84 overall and 3.48 gpa. I hope we both get in this time! :)

@samanthalynn that's awesome! I'm sad because I feel like I could've done a lot better for my gpa lol. I'm applying to Tucson! I applied here last time with 3.48 gpa and 85 in science and I was offered a spot at Yuma so you should be fine :)

Unfortunately I was told by the advisor that they weigh math and science grades more heavily. I calculated my GPA the same way but it's wrong because I don't know their weight system. She said she said that it takes two A's in a subject that is not math or science to turn a be in math or science into an a for the GPA purposes.

That's so confusing :sorry: I didn't know that!

Amiller and kayleia what campuses are you going for? I'm surprised we don't have more people on this thread, for Fall16 there were a lot of people.
