National University SD Cohort 55 - July 2018

Hi all,

I am applying to the BSN program at national this month & wanted to start a feed to see if there's anyone else out there applying/preparing for TEAS, etc!

Just talked to Elizabeth, last week of February is the when the TEAS/essay will be scheduled (as in the week of the 26th). Hard date won't be available until Feb 4th it looks like.

Is the essay given via computer or am I going to have to clean up my chicken scratch?

It's computerized using the word app. You are given the prompt, have one hour, then get an hour break before teas.

Hey,

Quick question for you guys and anyone else who can answer this. When you calculate your GPA do you count each lab as its own grade or A&P I and the accompanying lab as one single grade for example?

They are separate:

Ap lecture (both levels)

Ap lab (both levels)

Micro

Stats

I can attest to this, Iam attending the BSN program at the Los angeles campus and "The nursing program is very rigorous, what would you do to ensure your success?" and this one is my prompt when I took my essay. Good luck to everyone! =)

I got my email from elizabeth this morning scheduling my TEAS & essay for Feb 28th! Anyone else get theirs?

Hi guys,

I've applied to cohort 55 and figured it would be a good idea to participate in this forum. This application process sure is taxing on the nerves! I applied to cohort 54 and received an email telling me to check back after January 12th because I was alternate. When I called to find out exactly what that meant, I was told that the email was sent to me by mistake and should have gone to another person with the same first name. I was pretty bummed out, especially when I found out that anyone who makes the alternate list is automatically granted admittance to the following cohort.

Apparently, I was the first person denied. After discussing my score and how it was calculated, I was also informed that my advisor had quoted me the incorrect G.P.A. (He told me it was 3.759 and the Nursing department told me that it was 3.713). It was difficult to understand because I calculated my G.P.A. from my letter grades (Anatomy: Lab/Lecture [A], Physiology Lab/Lecture , Stats [A], Micro Lab [A minus], & Micro Lecture [A]) and it matched what my advisor had quoted me. I was then told that advisors should not be providing that information to students because the Nursing department uses a specific tool to calculate it.

The cutoff for admittance was 85.09 and the cutoff for the alternate list was 84.08. My overall score was 84.05. I scored 87.3 on the TEAS and appeared to have blown it on the essay. I received a 3/5.

I am sharing this information to try and provide some perspective to those who have not undergone the process. If you are trying to determine what kind of scores you need, I would confirm your G.P.A. with the Nursing department. I would also take the time to write some practice essays. I have always considered myself to be a pretty decent writer and didn't think that the essay would be too challenging, but it is ultimately why I got denied.

I plan to retake the essay with the hopes of improving my score and just received an email yesterday with an assigned date of 03/01/18. We all have the opportunity to improve because it's all about perseverance, right?

I totally appreciate the sharing of information here and the display of vulnerability. Best of luck to all of you! Hopefully, we will all make it in!

oh my goodness, how stressful that must have been for you!

thank you for sharing - I think the essay portion is the most nerve-wracking part of the process since it's a completely unknown prompt.
