Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

Hey all, Just finished the process of enrolling into the interim program. Now just sending in my transcripts and having them evaluated. I'm going to go to the Thursday information session next week to check it out, anyone else going? I'm still planning to apply to a few universities back east. I'm kind of wary on my chances of being accepted to the program though.

I have a 3.18 gpa from my previous bachelors, and a 4.0 in my pre-reqs so far. Also, does anyone know if they'll take public speaking for the COM pre-req?

Can anyone offer any insight into the program, how do you like it, quality teaching, etc?

You overall GPA and GPA in your Pre-Reqs look good enough to get in. Score very high on the TEAS test and write a killer essay.

Thanks for the reply. For the proctored essay, is there usually a generic question, or is it pretty much different every single time?

I think the essay question is different for each sitting of the TEAS test. The question I got was very specific. When I took the essay it seemed that everyone starting banging away at the keyboards and that made it difficult to concentrate. I read the question and just sat there for about 1/2 an hour thinking about what the question was really asking for to answer. Address every part of the question!

Come up with a theme that answers the question! My theme was "One Patient at a Time!" I wrote just over 1 and 1/2 pages, double spaced.

The essay is 30% of your admission score and you REALLY need to THINK about it. Do not give a generic answer the question is not generic. Also, after you write it, go over it and make the prose enjoyable but not complex. Transition from one idea to another smoothly.

I am going on and on, sorry. Hoped this helped, good luck!

Keep it as short as you can!

So, I guess I need to correct myself and say that THERE ARE in fact "PM" shift clinicals since I am about to be in one next month! :) Mine run from 1230-2230 one day a week, and 0630-0430 second day a week.

We started with 7 men in our cohort and are now down to 6.

I am a UCSD alumni (Math & Econ major), and if I had to compare the workload then with the one now, I would say that it's much higher in this program. So, I think it depends on a few factors: 1. What your area of study was at UCSD, 2. The instructors you will have in the nursing program, 3. The amount of time you are able to devote to the program (since kids and jobs can take away time from studying).

To find out more about the quality of the program, teaching, etc, I recommend reading this entire post. There are a few of us, current nursing students, who shared a ton of great information about the program, offered tips and answered some questions from prospective students. I think you will find this very informative. Good luck!

 You have a 22 hour clinical!!? I'm sure it was just a typo (0630-1630?), but that was my first thought - I'm dead after 12h! That type of clinical would make this one grueling program.:lol2:

I had a question...about the breaks. I know that you get 4 weeks off a year but what weeks? Thanks!

Hahaha,:lol2: yes, sorry guys, it WAS a typo! I should have said 0630 AM - 0430 PM instead. Sorry if I confused anyone. Well, just now we actually got an email that our days/times may change, so now I don't even know what my clinicals schedule will be like.

National tries to take away your validity in complaining and being upset about last minute changes by saying, "We tooooold you, you need to be flexible. " It's awfully irritating.

Please tell me someone knows when the breaks are...

Last year we had off: one week around spring break (not the same week as my kids), one week around the 4th of July, and two weeks off at Christmas.

You can look at National's Online catalog for the breaks... they are the same for nursing as the rest of the school. But basically you get 2 weeks for Christmas, 1 week for Spring break, 1 week for summer and that's it. I know this year, the summer break is June 26-July 5th, give or take a day. But check the catalog.
