National University San Diego

Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

I know I'm a little late in posting this announcement...

:redbeathe Just wanted to let everyone know I got accepted in to Cohort 25!!!!! :redpinkhe

Anyone else in Cohort 25??

For those of you applying, please do nOt give up hope!! This has been a long time coming for me. I remember almost exactly one year ago I was scanning these threads to find out more about the program, and now I was lucky enough to get in! Good luck to all!

Hello, I just applied to the bsn program at National University for April 2011. Im awaiting a letter of whether or not I got in. Has anyone recently been accepted to the program? If no one minds sharing I would really like to know what was your TEAS score, science GPA, ect. There were a lot of people applying for very little space (I think 50 students) in the Nursing program which makes me nervous about where I stand and whether or not I will get in. Any info people could share would be great...

Mandy,

I definitely feel lucky to have gotten accepted with the grades I submitted. My TEAS score was 80. I had mostly B's and one C for my science classes and the rest A's for my math and general education classes. I felt like one of my saving graces was the essay since I've worked in the medical field for over 6 years as a clinical assistant. I'm thinking despite my "average" grades, my ambition to be a nurse must have shined through in my essay. I'm also thinking that the cohort I applied in helped me to my advantage. So don't be discouraged! Best of luck!

I don't mean to sound rude, but I doubt it was your essay, especially since it's worth only 20%, it would have to be like a 5/5 essay considering your TEAS score and grades, to boost your overall score. I think National University will take most people that meet their standards, which are not all that difficult to be honest. I mean, they allow you to take your sciences more than once, and they take the best grade! A lot of schools will not accept anyone with a C in a science, period.

But after all, the name of the game is money. The more students they accept, the more $$$ they make. And that's what pays for their marble floors and class A office space that they currently occupy all over SD.

Well, I felt like it was one of the things that helped me out. I think in combination with everything else, it all just fell into place. I do agree with you about NU accepting students, after all it is considered a private university.. how else would it survive? But as you know, they do only accept 50 students for each cohort out of the 200 or so that apply.

I forgot to say congrats! You are one step ahead of me, and you deserve a nod, since I know the road there was a difficult one.

Thank you jStartS14 and djxpress. I think you are both right, im sure they really look at your drive to be a nurse through your essay to gauge your ability and contribution..even though it is not the most heavily weighted on their point system. I am a little relieved to hear others have gotten in with Bs or even a C. Congrats on getting in and heading on a path to a wonderful future!! :yeah:How long did it take before you got your acceptance letter?

Thanks djxpress! When are you applying? Or have you already?

Thanks so much MandyB!! I just wanted to put it out there that it is possible. Don't be discouraged. If you have time to improve any B's or C's, do it. But if you can't, apply anyway, and do your best on the TEAS and essay. You just never know who else is applying or how the competition is. Determination and patience are key. By the way, it took just about one month after I took the TEAS to hear back.

Can't apply until I have biomed stats. I've heard there is a community college class that they will accept as an alternative.

I've heard that too, but Im not sure which one. I took biomed stats with NU and actually made an A in it. Math is my worst subject (not being modest here! hehe) and I know for many others the same! I thought my teacher was great and very understanding that the majority of her students are prospective nursing students (probably 98% of my class) so she made all the info relative, as well as realistic (meaning, we're not majoring in statistics so it isnt necessary to memorize every formula, definition, or strategy). I was terrified before stepping into the class and ended up having a great experience overall. Good luck when you apply! :o

Congratulations jStartS14! What a wonderful feeling. I hope to have that same experience as I have been reading, reading, and reading on this thread. I hope to apply in May for the Jan 2012 cohort. I am glad to know that you don't have to have straight A's to get. I am curious about the financing of the program if you don't mind me asking...Can you cover the cost with Federal Student loans and grants? I am worried about being able to pay for the program.

Also, has anyone here applied more than once? What was your experience?
