Hi Everyone!
I applied to National University's ABSN program. I took the TEAS and sat for the proctored essay in January, they said we'd hear back by the end of February...it's February 24th and I haven't heard anything. The suspense is killing me...has anyone heard anything? I haven't seen anyone post anything about National in a while, so I thought I'd start a new thread.
I was wondering if anyone was embarrassed about saying they attend National University? It appears more like a trade/vocational school rather then a legitimate University, and it's ridiculously expensive.
No, definitely not. Otherwise I am sure people would not be commenting on this page with how happy they are that they were accepted, applying, reapplying etc...
This is my first post here in many years . I have been working towards my RN since 2007. I took most of my pre reqs at Grossmont college. I applied to National for the Oct. start date, has anyone heard from them as far as when we are going to schedule our teas and essay. I applied to the grossmont ADN program and didnt get in so I am especially nervous. Any info would be greatly appreciated.Congrats to all who were recently accepted . Thanks for all the valuable info.
Hey Zeto,
I am applying for the October cohort as well! I'm so anxious to hear back next week!!!!

Hey Fool.in.the.Rain,
I'm transferring from another nursing school: Loma Linda University. I was paying $40,000/year to attend that university, which I could no longer afford. At National University, it is roughly estimated around $50,000 for the whole program. While Loma Linda University is a prestigious school, especially for healthcare related professions... it's not worth being triple the amount of debt graduating from there. Also, you have to keep in mind that it is EXTREMELY difficult to get accepted into a nursing program in GENERAL. I tried applying to some cal state nursing schools and I was rejected because my GPA wasn't "high enough" or I didn't fulfill their requirements for specific courses only offered at CSU. Because CSUs are somewhat cheap and everyone is broke, everyone is applying to get into their IMPACTED programs, which means that a campus has exhausted existing enrollment capacity in terms of the instructional resources and physical capacity of the campus. I definitely didn't have time to be wasting taking more pre-req classes when I was already a nursing student. NU has the least amount of requirements to get into the BSN program and by that... they don't need your chem grades, which is a HUGE deal cause all nursing schools look at your chem and chem lab grades. Also, at NU you can complete your BSN in 2 years as opposed to my previous school which was 2.5 years and other schools 3-4 years. The month-to-month classes are great because you can focus on that one class for that month, as opposed to other nursing schools where they make you take 3-4 classes at once, all with their own finals (we sometimes had back to back finals), and it can get pretty stressful. One more thing I would like to add is that I have talked to alot of nurses at the UCSD and Scripps Hospital (because my uncle has leukemia and I visit him often) and they said that NU has a great reputation with their hospitals and they even send their ASN nurses to get their BSN from NU.
Hope this helps you weigh out your options and hopes this helps some people debating whether or not National's nursing program is worth it.
Even though I know we wont hear back this soon, I am checking my email every 5 minutes. Never been so anxious in my life. Much luck too you, hope we all recieve good news
OMG! I have been checking my email like 10 times a day too! I also heard from a girl in the program that she received her email in the SPAM folder, so make sure to check that too! Good luck to you as well and yes, I hope we ALL receive the good news! (hehe these emoticons are so much fun)
The cohort 27 group got their acceptance letters through the mail. Our orientation packet came via email though. The acceptance letter was basically "yay you got in! now we're not going to tell you anything until you get the orientation packet." I guess because of whatever was going on with the October applicants we didn't get the orientation packet for 3 or 4 weeks.
There is a lot of information that you will want that won't be included in the orientation packet (where good places to get immunizations done, financial aid stuff etc). Our cohort started a facebook page and a yahoo group so that we could pool our info and it seems like its been a big help so I highly recommend doing that if you get accepted. :)
Good luck! I can't wait to hear who got accepted!
The facebook idea is great. Im sure we will be getting a HUGE amount of information before we start the program. How do you like everything so far swede_girl726. You must be very busy right now, thanks for taking the time to give us newbies info.
The facebook group has been great because that way we can pool our info. Especially for things like the best places to get immunizations, cpr certs, financial aid info etc. Only a few people from my cohort seem to know about allnurses but most everyone had facebook.
To be honest, I have found the admin people in the nursing dept to be unorganized and not that helpful. However, it seems like they've been making some adjustments to the program so maybe that is why I am getting that impression. I was told by the nursing department that they are making our first class (and possibly other later ones) a hybrid class so we'll only be going in one day a week.
We actually have our orientation next Friday and I can't wait! I feel like we will finally be getting started on our actual nursing stuff and I am really excited about that! :) Hopefully we get all of the rest of our questions answered too! It seems like a long time since we took out teas test!
I have had the same experience with the administration at NU, but luckly I have heard that the actual nursing program is very good.
Good luck with orientation Swede_girl726. It must be so exciting to finally start on the path towards being a NURSE :yelclap:. Congratulations on your acceptance!!!!
