I'm looking forward to an interview in the coming days.
I was told it would be for a unit that receives transfers straight from ER.
Any idea what this kind of unit would be known as? Acute medical?
Thanks for any clues that would help me scour internet for prep questions!
Feel free to advise on technical questions I may be faced with.
(I'm fairly comfortable with the more general stuff like "Why did you become a nurse?" and "What where some of the more difficult situations you have faced as a nurse?" etc.
Thanks a million for any input!

23 hour observation unit?
Clinical decision unit?
In reality, most units get patients from the ER, these would just be units that are like extended ER/inpatient halfway houses so to speak. Purgatory of the hospital.

Most units in my hospital admit from the ER, where they go depends on what type of patient. We have a short stay/obs unit that mostly takes ER admits and extended recovery patients from day surgeries. The type of patient admitted there tends to be SOB, CP, pre and post cath, so it's heavy on cardiac knowledge but you get all types of patients.

at my hospital if they are a cardiac pt and need to be monitored they go straight to one of our tele floors, otherwise theyd go to our ortho/spine or med-onc depending on med hx and admitting dx
All of our units do cardiac monitoring.

Except for PACU, post-cath units, inpatient rehab, and cardiac surgery ICUs, doesn't everybody get patients straight from the ER? Those are the only places I can think of that wouldn't.
I wonder why they even mentioned that fact to you. It really doesn't tell you anything about what type of unit it is.
Thanks! After speaking to someone from the hospital, it is indeed a Short Stay Unit.
