A question for those using Excelsior and how to apply for the FA portion of MyCAA. Exactly what do you put down for the start and end date for your course? Also, I believe that I read about someone stating that you can email the FA voucher to Excelsior - which email is that? I am hopefully going to get a call into Excelsior tomorrow but figured I would ask around first! Thanks!
Well Im glad for the post I have read here. I too am in the same boat my husband is an E6. I currently have been using my account at the local CC. So my question to anyone that may know should I get on board with EC really soon? If so how long would I be able to use my MyCAA account October? January? I was trying to take as many non nursing courses at the CC so I have been putting of EC. Can I even add a different school onto my account? My husband is getting orders for Germany and we leave December 1st.
This also posses another question from me... Can this be done overseas if I keep my residency in Ohio? If anyone has any info on this if not I can start another thread on that one.
You should be able to complete Excelsior coursework overseas provided you can find a testing center. You may be able to test at the installation to which your soldier has been assigned. Call Excelsior and ask about testing centers abroad and also contact your next duty station's education center so see if they administer Pearson VUE Excelsior exams. I only took two exams at an off-post testing center. The rest of my exams were taken on post at the ed center.
As for the MyCAA questions....I have no idea!!! Some of the info given in the update seems conflicting, doesn't it?? I will send you my contact info in a private message if you want to call me. I may be able to tell you how to get started now and secure your funding before the new dates go into effect.
Okay i talked to MyCaa and hopefully i can explain without too much confusion!
If you were already approved on the old requirements where you got the 6000 for school you can use the money for any classes starting BEFORE Jan 15 2011 HOWEVER starting Sept 1st and up until October 21st you must print off/register for all of your exams that you plan to start BEFORE jan 15 2011. This is because if you do not qualify for the MyCaa funding under the new requirements then on October 21st you will no longer be eligible to print off/apply for FA HOWEVER everything that you apply for and print starting on Sept 1st they WILL honor all those documents...make sense or have i totally confused you????
EXAMPLE:
For my begining dates i'm putting Sept 1 and for my end dates i'm putting Jan 30 2011 that gives me 6 mo to complete them and once you submit those FA documents to EC anyway you have 6mo to complete them so my dates match up on a side note i was going to take the micro exam but since i'm going to use every bit of the MyCaa money i have seeing how i wont be able to use it for the CPNE or FCCA now, i'm taking EC's online Micro class *which starts Jan 11 so it makes the cut off date for MyCaa of Jan 15. I already talked to my advisor and he went ahead and approved me for what he could so that i could use myCaa funding.
i hope that helps and i dint confuse anyone. Basically i'm gonna be on a fast track. My suggestion is get as much of the nursing ones done that mycaa will pay for and leave the geneds to sit as CLEP tests are cheaper to pay out of pocket versus the EC exams paying out of pocket.
I'm sure I can figure this out for myself, but if anyone has infor. Please share. I guess the MyCAA is the money that is available to certain military spouses for school. I think that's great that you were able to get some of your costs covered! Unfortunately I cannot find resources for myself. My husband is an 07 which prevents me from getting help with school. I was told to look for scholarships at military one source. I searched for days, but it seems that I never met the requirements for any of them This has been really frustrating b/c I cannot really afford Excelsior without assistance and cannot take out anymore student loans. Does anyone know if there is anything else available that can help me? Did you find any extra discounts through the military. I also know that lots of soldiers get their nursing degree through Excelsior. Do military installation offer any CPNE workshops? I am moving to Alaska and will not be able to afford to fly to workshops and the CPNE. Will I always be able to get a job on a military installation with my Excelsior RN without having to meet the state requirements? Thanks!!!
did you mean E7? or is your husband an O7 as in a General? MyCaa is now only availible for E1-E5 unfortunetly, which i think really bites =) operation homefront offers any military spouse regaurdless of husband's rank scholarships, and if you friend them on facebook you will be one of the first to find out when to apply...there are also many nursing scholarships out there as well. i was able to use my MyCaa funding for a little while but now that it's over i have to pay cash...i also am ineligible for any more financial aide. EC has payment plans, it may take you a little longer to get through the program, as you can not test until you have fully paid for the exam, but that may be an option for you. My husband is an E6 and i am not working right now, but we scaled down everything in order for me to finish school. another option if you husband doesn't plan on or hasn't used his GI Bill is to have him sign it over to you, my husband did that, and that will pay for my CPNE and my BSN after i'm finished with EC. I think it's really hard to find a scholarship but you can also check the education center on your post and see if they have any listings...Ft. Hood gave me a huge packet a few years back with over 70 typed pages of grants and scholarships!
Oh you do get a discount off the enrollment fee instead of over 900 it's 875 i think , and your enrollment fee can be spread out over like 6 mo i think i pay 150 per month for 5 mo and i put a down payment down on it...there are not any CPNE workshops on a post anywhere, and yes you can work on any military instillation as an EC grad, the only thing that you will have to pay attention to is to take you NCLEX RN for a STATE that accepts EC grads...hope that info helped you out!
