My "crazy" plan....ANY thoughts are appreciated!

Alright, here's the deal:

I'm currently working at a job I don't like. I'm working toward my CNA (pre-req here), and would like to earn my ADN before I quit my job, but I'm not sure if I will be able to schedule my schooling around work. Unless working full time 2nd shift and going to nursing school is feasible??(The place I work at could care less about my problems, but they pay well.)

So I'm thinkin'......I need to work here for 2 more years to get all my debt caught up, so I'll get all of my pre-reqs out of the way, maybe get LPN if I can (?) while I 'wait'.

Once the debt is caught up, I tell this place to shove it (nicely :) ), and move from WI to Texas. I buy a trailer or something similar to live in, so the majority of my living expenses are taken care of in one shot. (With no rent, a part time job will be enough to pay the bills.)

I'll either find related work while I finish my ADN, or I'll just work part time anyplace I can find. (I already have the cash for that degree). Once I get the ADN, I should be able to find nursing work while I persue my BSN full time. (I hope!)

Then hopefully on to an Anesthesia program, but I'll worry about those details later. (I'm hoping for TX - that trailer would come in handy there, too!!)

Whattaya think??..........Oh, and I was thinking about relocating to the Houston area (but that's just a thought - I just know there are hospitals there - that's about it)......I have a newer car, so I will be able to commute a bit if necessary.......................Any thoughts??????

Living in a trailer does sound likely to be cheap if you buy an older trailer. (I don't know, I've had a mortgage for a LONG time, and it sure isn't--cheap.) I've heard that mobile home park fees can be fairly steep, but what they do provide is utilities. I suspect you'll want electricity (if only to study by) and water. If you look into buying a piece of land, make sure you take into account what utilities are present or nearby, and what it would take to get them INTO your trailer. A former co-worker of mine got burned that way, wanted to build on the land, thought utilities were close by but they weren't. And make sure you find out whether you can live in a trailer on the property.

I read it in the newspaper a couple months ago. It was a story about a couple of UCSD students who live out of their cars (the focus of this particular article was the fact that the neighborhoods surrounding that campus are all upper middle- upper class and yet they have been fairly accommodating).

If he's moving to Texas he'll also want the electricity for air conditioning! :)

Yeah, there's definitely alot to consider.

I was thinking land might be nice, but it's looking like it may be quite a headache. (And, more importantly, ALOT more money!!) Then there's zoning laws....... :crying2:

I don't think the 'trailer parks' that I've seen include utilities in the cost of rent, with the possible exception of sewer/water. (That kinda stinks)

I guess I'll keep poking around online, see what I can find. Maybe next year I'll take some vacation and head down there to check it out. (24 hr. drive :o ....maybe I can find some cheap plane tickets  )

Oh well - there's still time to iron out some more of the details, but I'm thinkin' the 'big picture' plan is a pretty good one.

Oh and yeah, I think I'll want air conditioning!!....It's HOT down there!! :rotfl:
