My Psychology class at the cc - Vent

Published

I'm currently taking Intro to Psychology as a pre-req for a nursing program at the local community college, and there are quite the interesting people in my class. Most of them are very annoying to me. I hate how some of them (at least 6-7 people) feel that it's okay to interrupt the teacher to tell about their own story that kind of relates to the point she's trying to make! It gets even better when someone interrupts the person that interrupted the teacher. I DID NOT PAY to hear about how your aunt so and so was in a domestic violence situation or how you work in a jail all night or how people treat you at your waitress job!!

One girl even TALKS with her mouth FULL. She is one of the constant interrupters, and yesterday she was eating some cookies and proceeded to tell her story with her mouth so full we could barely understand her words. The teacher kept asking her to repeat parts of her story because it was so bad. WHO DOES THAT? What happened to manners and respect?

Our teacher is so nice though. She's so patient and takes every story in stride with a smile on her face. I understand asking questions if you don't understand, but I don't need to know your entire life story. I'm a second degree student and I must say I was quite spoiled attending a private university. Just in my experience, there's a different kind of mindset and behavior for many of those that attend the community college.

I completely understand!!! I'm currently enrolled at my county community college (RN program) and most of the students there are lazy, disrespectful, and clueless. I've seen students throw temper tantrums and talk back to professors.

I thought "maybe I'm just getting old" (35...) but no, I don't remember ANYONE acting like that when I went through my first round of college (17 years ago).

Take a deep breath.....get awesome grades....and count down the weeks until the end of the semester. That's all ya can do!!! :lol2:

Good Luck!!!

I'm at a university and it's like that here too. In my Chemistry class this girl constantly interrupts and is so disrespectful to the professor. She talks to her friends and then whines that she doesn't understand anything, so when the teachr explains it again she just argues and it's like she thinks she is the only one in the class. It's really rude and immature and I try to just remember that she will never make it in nursing school :-)

good luck though, I've had plenty of classes where ppl want to be the center of attention and it's really sad.

I think that happens in many college settings. Of course not in every class but I've had classes like that at both community colleges and 4 yr universities so its not a community college issue.

If its too distracting then speak to the professor privately. A couple of us had to do that in one class when one particular lady would take up too much time with her questions. She had a question for everything he said. Questions and comments are OK IMO. They make the class more interesting and sometimes can even enhance the class by applying real world situations. However, if its too distracting then you should definitely speak to the professor.

In my humble opinion, your psyc teacher needs to project more control over the attention of the class. Many of obnoxious students seek out attention for their own self interest and enhancement. In my younger days during my first education, I found teachers that took offense to being asked questions or be interrupted and let you know about it. I have learned to be more self directed in nursing studies and not to ask too many public quesitons until I have a feel for the teacher.

I just had Psych too and its an interesting class so people are bound to chirp in from time to time.

njgirl, oh yes I love those students! They are going to make it so much easier for us to get into the program of our choice. Just got our first labs back and the Prof said the grades were pretty low, I got a 97! Works for me.

That happened in my psychology class, it happens in most classes. Professors I've had encourage in class discussions, it helps students stay interested and relate the concepts to their own experiences.

Sorry you don't find it helpful. Try keeping an open mind to make it through the class
