My hands shake!

Published

Most of my life my hands shake when I am nervous. I hope this doesn't affect me in nursing school.

Any stories about similar issues? Any advice?

I have been concentrating on willing them not to shake.. I am just worrying myself sick this will affect my success.

Thankfully I don't have this problem. I have a pretty steady hand. Even under pressure. I know I am very fortunate for this.

Worst case scenario, you could always see a specialist. Or maybe a therapist. I've heard therapists can do wonders to help people to stop shaking. You could also try hypnotism. I have no idea whether it would work or not but I'm just trying to think outside the box!

nursing school is not as intimidating as you may think.

. Anyway your solution, when your about to do a task like give an injection in front of your teacher WIGGLE YOUR TOES!!!

I thought I was the only one that did this It definitely makes a big difference. I'm so bad about shaking especially when doing presentations. If I start feeling shaky, I just concentrate more on my toes...something about it just helps me relax.

I haven't had the shakiness during presentations fortunately. Speech was one of my best classes. Most of my fellow students said I was as comfortable as a politician, but with alot less BS. :)

I am trying to stay positive, but there are so many horror stories about nursing school.

I've heard many also, just ignore them. Negative thoughts will get you down. Just take everything 1 day, 1 assignment at a time. I wrote everything I had to do out, in order of importance and would just go down the list. lol...and yeah, some days you have 3 tests, and multiple assignments/presentations due. I just focus on getting through the week. I think you will find that the instructors are more nurturing than you think. I don't know how I would gotten through the semester without the encouragement of my clinical instructors. My fellow students are awesome too, everyone kinda leans on each other when needed. It might seem hard when you're doing it, but when the semester is over you're like, whew that wasn't so bad.

I just took my practical exam and I failed and the instructor told me that I shake so bad that I contaminaded everything inserting an IV. She said that she was so worry for me that that she tought I should take an anti-anxiety medication especially before a practice exam, because it was not normal. That I couldn't be better prepared, but I failed. I always shake, because it is a genetic condition but under stress I shake a lot! Now I have to do it again, and if I fail the second time, that's it for me:( I will try all your advises that you guys have posted, because I this point that's all I can do. I considered myself a very good student, professional, study everything they give, do my work on time and making sure I cover everything they want me to cover. I have good grades. But because my hands shake too much under this type of stress and I can not control it, I might fail my semester:( Depressing uh?

Thank you all again,
