  1. How was your first week of school?

    • Great! This is gonna be a breeze!
    • Good! If I work hard and stay focused, I will do fabulous.
    • It was okay. It will be hard, but can be done.
    • OMG. This is going to be waaaaaaay harder than I thought.
    • Nursing major?! HA. I have switched, to Ping Pong Instructor.

Man oh man. I thought that the first few weeks of Fundamentals would be a breeze because I learned this stuff in my CNA class.

DURRR

We had a 3 hour lecture that covered 3 WEEKS worth of CNA training. I felt awful for the people that didn't already learn this stuff. If this is the pace of this program, I better seek immediate treatment for my cranial-rectal disorder and get to work. :lol2:

I made sure to ask the all important question the first day.... exactly which books will we absolutely HAVE to bring on which days. Luckily, we use most of our books at home and only need Fundamentals and Health Assessment most days. After that I went to La Target and got a great backpack....I'm too tall for a rolling bag, the handles never seem long enough....

>>>>TIP -- When I was trying to sort through the 4 mile aisle of backpacks, I found that I could better gauge the size by using binders. The school supplies were right there by the bags and so I just stuffed as many 1" binders (alternating spine on left, spine on right so they were square) as I could to see how many of my books I could carry if I had to. I found a pretty big bag that can hold quite a few of my books for only $25.

I also bought a small handbag (ON CLEARANCE!! $9) for my stethoscope, supplies, and valuables that can fit in the front pocket of the backpack. Now I can leave my 80# pack in class when I go to lunch and not have to worry about anything important disappearing.

Well, overall, other than the random overwhelming sense of

WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING?!

I think it went pretty well. Speaking of, what the heck am I doing on HERE at 11:30pm when I have to go to school in the am?!?!?!? :uhoh3:

So, how is it going for everyone else?

I just noticed that this was my 100th post!! WOOT!

Whew reading your post has gotten me worried. I was thinking I would be way ahead of the game in nursing school with all my hospital experience. If they cover everything I know from being a tech in the first 3 hours then I'll definitly have to rethink my stance. I don't start classes officially until tomorrow, so I will have to post back and tell ya'll how it went!

:penguin: no real point to the penguin... I just LOVE them!!!!

The looks I got at Target when I did that a couple of years ago. It worked great though. I ended up with a good backpack that fit everything I needed it to fit!:lol2:

:uhoh21: :uhoh21: move along lookey loos, nothing to see here.... just a crazy lady stuffing massive amounts of random stuff into a backpack while mumbling to herself......

I just got back from my first day and feel a bit overwhelmed. I just want to shut down and go to sleep, but instead I suppose I will start my reading. I think my family will have to get used to seeing me from behind a textbook.

So ar I have had two days and all we have done is go over policies and rules and things of that nature. I was all prepared and read the first couple chapters thinking we were going to get right down to it. No such luck! We were supposed to cover chapter 1 today, but didn't. Then tomorrow we arent going to get to go over that chapter because we have our intro to clinicals. So its looking like chapters one and two are going to get squished together. UGH! The subjects of the chapters don't seem too overwhelming though. I mean personal health and wellness isn't too mind boggling. I think if I stay on top of everything it should be a fairly decent semester. The lowest you can have is a 77% and I'm aiming for 100%!!!

Very overwhelming. We stared out with 5 chapters the first day, I have never had so much homework in my life. Today was our first exam, I wont get my grade until Wed. but I feel like I did pretty good on it.

I started on Friday, my schedule is Fridays 8-5 and Saturday 7am-8pm. We haven't started clinicals yet so on Sat. it is all day lecture. It was a very loooong day. My instructor went over about 10 chapters and our first test is this next Saturday. I don't even know where to start, but im sure I'll just pick a chapter and go from there.

I start my first semester as a senior this coming Monday. I'm excited. To some degree, I already somewhat know what to expect since I've already done two semesters of the nursing curriculum. But this semester is more full of research stuff, which I'm not really into very much. That and I'm not really looking forward to my psych. rotation that I have to do this semester. I got stuck with a 3-11pm shift for clinical and I'm not happy about it. We're not able to swap clinical shifts. I hate the idea of having it that late at the pysch. rotation, and prefer being home with my kids. That's why I've always tried so hard to keep my schedule during the day. I'm going to have to rely on my husband and teenager to help me out a lot more this semester, which I also hate to do. At least I have supportive hubby and kids that are willing to do what they have to in order to help me out :)

We must have gotten 200 pages to read last night. I think tonight's about the same. I started a new job yesterday too (same company, but different department).

By the time I came home and did some organizing it was 8:30....I tried to read but by 10 was zonked. I'm so stressed trying to figure out where I'm going to have time to practice lab skills before we are tested on them. My new job's hours overlap the open lab time and they're not open on the weekends. I'm leaning toward quitting work and living on the tuition loan I took out from Sallie Mae this semester....but I'm so tight with my money I hate like heck to do that....argh!!!!!!!!!

OMG, I am so exhausted! But my head is just buzzing and I can't sleep. I think we have had at least 500 pages of reading so far. And I'm only thru the second day. I knew it would be bad, but not this bad. Well, no guts no glory. Guess it will pay off some day.

I have explained to my 3 yr old that I have to read a lot because I am going to school to be a nurse. And now she keeps coming up to me while I'm reading and asking me if I'm a "nursery" yet! I love it. :roll

Well it was ok ... some boring stuff, some fun stuff, some lectures, mostly orientation ... there is so much reading to do before next week and between each day. I have a cough that is driving me nuts and I wish it would just leave immediately but it doesn't seem to want to ... I spent a lot of the first week just trying not to cough .. and, as you can imagine, that could get distracting to everyone involved.

Most people seem about as overwhelmed as I do but I think it will be ok. Just gotta keep up! And get better!

Best of luck to everyone here!! You can do it!!!!!
