Is there a website for medical dosage to help me with reading labels of medication and than working out the calculation? I fail my class by 2pts because I did not understand how to read medication label and determine which part i use to calucate the dosage for that particular medication. Thank you so much. well, i am in 1st semester but before I ever began the program I bought Math for Meds and this is a work book that starts with simple calculations and goes more in depth. you could always google math medications for practice or something like that. hope that was helpful.

There is a sticky thread that has a lot of good websites for med dosage calculations. Review these and do a couple practice questions each day and it will eventually get easier. As fo the mental health class... listen attentively in class, ask questions on anything you don't understand and read your assigned reading. You should do okay. And don't forget to keep praying. Pray for retention of information discussed and good recall for exams. And yes I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck to you.

mental health nursing can be a struggle for some and can be easy for others. don't get frustrated with it. you will use concepts from mental health in all nursing you do regardless of specialty. you will see a shift from physiological to psychosocial. and with this shift, comes new and exciting nursing diagnoses. well, not exactly new, but if your instructors are like mine, we were not allowed to use psychosocial nursing diagnoses until we started mental health theory class and clinical.

i have been told that people tend to struggle with therapeutic communication (tc). not necessarily using it (although sometimes) but more like being able to pick out which type of tc is being used during a test question and which type of tc is the best out of the selections provided.

i would review some concepts in a psychology book if you have one. have a good understanding of maslow's hierarchy and erikson's developmental stages. if you have a pharmacology book, brush up on dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, histamine and adrenergic neurotransmitters and receptors. they each have implications because they can impact the person as a whole.

another area where students at my school skinned their knees was with personality disorders (clusters a, b, and c)

become familiar with psychosocial nursing diagnoses... or at least take a look at them.

buy a good psychiatric nursing care plan book. one that i used, which i really found helpful was manual of psychiatric nursing care plans: diagnoses, clinical tools, and psychopharmacology. (2006). 3rd ed. written by elizabeth varcarolis.

keep an open mind when reading about and dealing with clients who have mental illnesses.

good luck and have fun!

Well, I was very scared. I had 6 classes (Pathophysiology, Health Assessment, Biomedical Ethics, Intro to Professional Nursing, Orientation to Nursing, Medication Calculation), and 15 credits in total. Now, I am done passing all my classes with 5 As and 1 B. I missed that A for 3.3%. Even if one of my teachers did not like me, I still managed to get an A in her class.

How was yours?
