My first and second day of LPN school

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Started LPN school yesterday. I was very nervous, ended up sitting in the back of the class on the first day, grrrrr. The first day we went over the handbook, rules of the program and the college, met all the instructors, introduced ourselves (which I hate public speaking and I think my voice was shaking :crying2:, but by the 2nd time we had to do it I was ok, I know I will get over or at least deal with my nerves during this program ) also we took a tour of the facility, and reviewed basic internet usage. Today, day #2, we were scheduled for Human Growth & Development, Nursing Foundations, and Anatomy & Physiology (A&P). I hav already taken HG&D so I came to class for the last two classes. Foundations covered legal issues, and some ethics, and A&P we really got started with reviewing chapters 1-4 including the cell. No homework, other than to read. This year, the nursing program is going hybrid, so we have to basically check our online course account for course information, what chapters to read and for powerpoints for lecture. Tomorrow is Personal, Family, Community Health, Nutrition, and a tour of the library and computer lab. All I can say, is that I am on day #2 and this weekend I have to read 7 chapters so far just to catch up this week (b/c we found out the reading assignments during class) and another 2-3 chapters to get a headstart on Monday's coursework . Also, there will be btwn one to three tests each weeks after we get through the first 2 wks. Also, we were reminded to start practicing fractions, decimals, and ratios for the dosage calc test(s) this month, which is mandatory to pass with an 80 and then 90% to remain in the program. There is som leinancy b/c they give us 3 tries. I am not too worried I'm pretty good in math. Well, I will try to keep an update for those who may want to know a little about the LPN school from a new student perspective as I used this website b4 I started and it proved to be great help to me. So far, NS is exciting and fast-paced. :yeah:

Thanks for sharing your experience! :)

Wow, thanks for sharing! I can't WAIT to start classes on the 19th! Our orientation is on the 14th and I am actually picking up my uniform TODAY from the local uniform store. We have to wear white stand up collar tops and WINE colored pants! SO glad the pants are NOT white! I spill things WAY to easily to be wearing white pants! LOL!

Well, good luck to you this semester and keep us posted! I am taking fundamentals of practical nursing & A&PI. Can't believe I'll be doing CLINICALS in a few weeks!!! So freaking out but excited too! :)

Your're lucky we have to wear all white uniforms, pants and tops, I haven't bought mine yet, just trying to save up the money since I'm not working while in school. Congrats on starting I thought I would never start and I did it.

wowo...thank you for sharing ... My class will start at April 2010.... and I have no ideas what I need to do ... Well may be I need to forcus on Anatomy and Physiology

Your're lucky we have to wear all white uniforms, pants and tops, I haven't bought mine yet, just trying to save up the money since I'm not working while in school. Congrats on starting I thought I would never start and I did it.

Ugh... We have to wear all white tooo!!! Not very flattering lol... I thought it was never going to happen for me but I start in March. So when do/did you start?

I started jan 6th.

That sounds like a very full schedule! At the college I go to, students have to take A & P and H G & D before applying for the nursing program. Reading your post makes me thankful for that! Good luck to you!
