  1. I need to do the same thing! I have to take Micro and then onto the nursing classes. I'd be down for keeping in touch with those of you around the same stage in the game.
  2. That is amazing! Is there a similar youtube video geared toward MicroBio??
  3. Awesome! I'm gearing up to start as well! I just got my copy of microbiology Demystified the other day! I took A&P in lpn school so that's accounted for. I'm excited but nervous too! I've been an LPN for a little over 2 years now. I worked 10 months in a nursing home in the subacute rehab and the rest of the time at my current job in a major trauma hospital in Western New York. Can't wait to start my new journey!! :)
  4. Thanks for the info!! Wish me luck. Good luck to you also, AngLVN!
  5. Hey, all! So, I am thinking of starting EC in the very near future. My question is will they take most if not all of my former college credits from my BA in Psychology? I mean, am I REALLY gonna hve to take Developmental Psych AGAIN?? I hope not. I know I need to take Microbio, but I already took Anatomy & Phys I & II WITH labs at my LPN school. Will they make me take them OVER? Any tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
  6. I'm in th eprocess of going thru myvery first orientattion as a new grad. I had 5 days on 7-3, 5 days 3-11 and am on day one of five during the 11-7 overnight shift which is the shift I was hired for. So far, so good! Everyone has been pretty cool and are very helpful. I feel much more confident already I work in the sub acute unti of a LTC facility. So far I've passed meds, given shots ( a few ppd's too!) , assisted ostomy care, done a ton of finger sticks too. I think I'll be ready to go when my final week is up. I can ask for more time if needed, but I think I'll be ok! Good luck to you.
  7. Thanks for your kind words! So far so good at the new job. Everyone seems really nice & cool and work together quite well! Let's just hope it's the same on the night shift. I won't know for sure for another 2 weeks since that will be the last week of my orientation. BTW, they also had us go offsite to do a "lab" style competency assesment where we had to do catheters, trach care/ suctioning & G-tube insertion on the mannequins, lol! I passed all the stations with 100%!!! Go me,!! = )
  8. Hey! I live in Buffalo, NY & I just got my 1st LPN job, which I start orientation for tomorrow! Base salary at the LTC facilty that I'll be at is $15.39. I, however, will be working overnights ( 11-7 ) so I will make $16.09. I will also work alternate weekends which is an extra $3.25 on top of the base pay. Not too shabby considering how cheap it is to live here! I'm from Jersey originally.
  9. Hi! So, long story short... I graduated from nursing school last May but didn't get up the nerve to take my boards until THIS past March! I passed on the 1st try and feel SO dumb for waiting so long. I had some other reasons as well which included getting promoted to a full time position at the group home that I worked for during chool and my hubby REALLY needing health insurance. This thing is I am SO scared that I have totally lost my clinical skills?! I mean, at the group home, I was med certified to pass oral meds and stuff like that BUT it's been OVER a year since doing anything like injections or straight cath's and that sort of thing! What if I SUCK?!?! What if I can't remember everything?! Am I being paranoid?! Also, I will be working the night shift. I think that won't be too much of an issue as I am by nature more of a night owl BUT I could use any advice/tips from you night shift nurses would be willing to offer!?
  10. Hey! Did you ever consider Buffalo, NY? The hospitals there seem to hire a lot. Also the rent is hella cheap compared to most places. I am from NJ originally and currently live in Buffalo. I will be moving back to NJ next year, however, to care for my dad who's been recently diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer's. Erie County Medical Center is an excellent hospital in Buffalo & I did my clinicals there as well. LOVED the staff and envireonment! www.ecmc.edu Good luck to you!!
  11. Hey! Congrats & don't be nervous!! The classes at Trociare are pretty good, tough but fair. However, this past semester they seemed somewhat unorganized and things were a bit out of synch for a while but it turned out ok. Just take good notes, read the chapters before class, hi-lite the important parts, and use the ATI books that they are going to give you once classes start as well. Those books are GREAT! Try to find a few classmates and start a study group, that works well for some people...just not me, lol. You can DO it!
  12. Hey, all! Just a quick update to let everyone know that I finally graduated from my LPN program this past weekend! I haven't been too active in the community lately ( school and all, lol!) but just wanted to let you all know that this board has been so helpful throughout the past year to me in a myriad of ways! My school had us enrolled in an turtoring program from ATI Testing that helps to prepare you for the nclex. We had to take a "comprehensive predictor" test that took about 2 hours to deterime how well they felt you would do on the nclex. Well, I was pleased to find out that I scored a 95% chance of success on the first try!! I sure hope that turns out to be true!! I'm going to review for the next 3-4 weeks and hope to sit for my boards some time in the 1st week of July. I also want to say good luck to all you folks just starting your schooling. It's hard work and you will have NO life for about a year, but you CAN do it and it is SO worth it! :redbeathe
  13. Hey! I don't know much about their loan program but the hospital itself is GREAT! I am finishing up my last semester of lpn school and I'm doing my clinicals there during this rotation. Everyone has been so helpful and welcoming and I just applied for a lpn position that I saw posted on their website over the weekend. Where are you thinking of relocating from?
  14. Hey, there! So, are you just starting out this semester? I am in my last semester and graduate in May ( FINALLY!) and can't wait!
  15. Hey, all! Just wondering if anyone else out there is about to start their last semster of lpn school? I start tomorrow and am SO excited / nervous etc.! I started this time last year and BOY has it been a wild, crazy - hectic, yet fulfilling year! I'm hoping to graduate in May and will try to maintian NO LESS than a 3.00 gpa! I plan on starting Excelsior College's RN program 3 - 6 months after I begin whatever LPN job I snag after graduating. I must be NUTS to start all this at age 37, huh?!?! LOL!! My ultimate goal is to become an advanced practice nurse down the road! I gave up a great paying job ( which I HATED!!) as a provider relations specialist to finally pursue my dreams of truly helping people. I have NEVER felt so fulfilled doing work at clinicals as I have during the course of any other job I have ever held! I really think I am going to LOVE nursing!! I felt so at HOME, even on the first week on the floor. Anyway...good luck to all of you this semester! I'll try to post every now and again. I used to frequent this board quite a bit, but last semester kicked my ASS, lol! I had classes M-F and worked weekends as a direct care worker for a group home for developmentally disable adults. So, yea, I basically had NO life at ALL!! It'll all be worth it in the end, though! Can't wait!! Bright Blessing, Arcadia73
