My First Day Of LVN School

Published

So, yesterday was my first day of LVN school and OMG I am so over whelmed with all the info and studying we have to do.

First off, we were told that they are intergrating parts of the RN program because a lot of LVN's that bridge over end up failing so to make the transition easier, they are using our class as a "test" to see if this works.

Then, we get our sylabus for fundamentals and it is a 246 pages! Our sylabus for Pharmacology 175 pages and we are to read both by Monday along with the first 5 chapters in our fundamentals book, the first 7 chapters in Pharmacology and 4 chapters for Nutrition all due on Monday. What have I got myself into:banghead:?

We were also given a test yesterday on Drug Dose Calculations which I did terrible on but then found out he is not going to grade it, he just wanted to see where everyone was at. We ended up losing like 10 students that just got up and walked out of class!!!

So, anyway, I am still breathing (lol) and now off to study. :nurse:

the syllabus is soooo long! what kinds of information did it consist of? I have been in college before (not nursing however) and I have never seen a syllabus more than 10 pages. just curious what in the world did it have in it?

I don't know what kind of nursing school the original poster is going to, but most LPN programs are not like that. Expecting you to read almost 500pages -5-7 chapters over a weekend is not how it works. First semester is stressful at first I know, but after one month you get into the groove of it, and it becomes easy. They are weeding out the people who don't try and don't do the work, as long as you put forth some effort, you'll make it. Once you get out of the first semester its much better, the 2nd one you actually feel like a nurse!

I started sept 3rd and have had 7 quizzes and a test already. All of our quizzes are pop and the tests are announced at least three days in advance. I am doing well so far, just a lot to take in. I haven't had to study like this ever so I need to find my way of studying and I will do fine. I love it so far though. Good luck to everyone!

I had my first day of class last week. The uniforms are going to be a drag though... especially for the theory part. I'm going to a Catholic nursing school, so I guess that's to be expected : O

ginny - are your school uniforms any worse than others? scrubs are so unflattering!

I remember as a kid, I loved catholic school uniforms! plaid, pleated skirt with jumper top, and a whiter than white blouse. even got to wear cotton pinafores that criss crossed in the back. I thought I looked so cuuuuute!

all the neighbor kids wore reg'lar clothes to school.

Scrubs are the shiznit! Some nice dark navy scrubs on with some nice white kicks, not to mention there so comfortable to wear :up:
