So, yesterday was my first day of LVN school and OMG I am so over whelmed with all the info and studying we have to do.
First off, we were told that they are intergrating parts of the RN program because a lot of LVN's that bridge over end up failing so to make the transition easier, they are using our class as a "test" to see if this works.
Then, we get our sylabus for fundamentals and it is a 246 pages! Our sylabus for Pharmacology 175 pages and we are to read both by Monday along with the first 5 chapters in our fundamentals book, the first 7 chapters in Pharmacology and 4 chapters for Nutrition all due on Monday. What have I got myself into:banghead:?
We were also given a test yesterday on Drug Dose Calculations which I did terrible on but then found out he is not going to grade it, he just wanted to see where everyone was at. We ended up losing like 10 students that just got up and walked out of class!!!
So, anyway, I am still breathing (lol) and now off to study.

hop to it! you have your work cut out for you.
everything I've read about NS is that for the year or so that you're in it, life as you know it ceases.

I totally agree you can pretty much forget anything but sleeping, eating, and breathing nsg school. I just graduated in June and finally got my NCLEX results this morning (YAY I passed!) We started out with 22 members in our class originally and before it was over with we graduated 9 of them. We even had three others come in from the other campuses and they didn't make it either. It takes a tremendous amount of dedication and sacrifice to finish.
If you don't have an answering machine I would strongly suggest you invest in one lol. You have to block out periods to study and sometimes family and friends simply do not understand. It is very rough to do 10 hour clinical days and then have to come home and study another 3 hours at night!
Good luck and have a great day!

OMG I totally understand Christine2009. I just started Monday and I'm stressed already. I have been having headaches every since I started. My teacher was giving us all types of info on the first day and I was trying to get it all but its just so much. We had a quiz the second day as soon as everyone got in the room. I was so scared!:redbeathe Now we know that we can have pop test anytime without notice. That's supposed to keep us studying ALL the time. We also had a test BEFORE WE EVEN STARTED THE CHAPTER!!!!!! and that's supposed to teach us to read ahead. Luck 4 me I actually studied so I did well on the test. We had two yesterday and I passed both with a 100. Now I know I have to step up to the plate and stop playing around.
Good Luck to everyone and do your best. Study hard and Study harder!!!!
On the surface it seems hard, but it is just a lot of reading and then applying what you learn. Becoming a nurse is not an easy task, and you just do not have to know the stuff, but also be able to implement all that you learn to your pt's:heartbeat
idybttfly,
Since starting school have you been incrediably tired all the time? OMG I feel like I can not get enough sleep! I am so incrediably tense and the middle of my back is killing me! I have so much to do before Monday and do not even know where to begin. Today I am meeting some friends of mine that are in the RN program to go and study. They at least keep me motivated to do what I need to do, but goodness gracious I am so stressed!
You just don't know! Like I said my head has been killing me. I was hoping I would be able to rest today but then I thought about all of the work that has to be done by Monday! I totally understand what you mean. We had study groups this week and it really helped for the test we had. I knew it would be hard but this exceeded my expectations. I know it's supposed to be hard so that's why I'm doing what I have to do to become the best nurse I can possibly become. :heartbeat

I start sept 3rd, and you guys are scaring me!!!
Don't be scared ashleywaiting623. You just have to know that this is what you want to do. It's very hard but you should know that. Just go to class willing and wanting to learn. It will be just fine. Let us know how your first day goes.
Congrats!!! And As I always say STUDY HARD!!!!!

My first day of LPN school was last week. We got our books a week in advance so that helped. I started out reading ahead and that helped a great deal. Also, our instructors and dean are wonderful....they have created a nice little calendar for us so that we know what will be covered from day to day in each class/lab so we can be prepared. They give us our syllabus with objectives/questions that will be covered as well and that will be good study guides for tests. The test dates are also included on our calendar as well as clinicals. It is still going to be tough and time consuming, but as long as you don't get behind, you should do just fine. I am very excited and cannot wait to learn everything!!! Ask me again in a few months and see if I am ahead lol!
