Despite the fact that the nursing building is being remodeled and we're actually stuck in a room where there are asbestos warnings posted up outside (I'm thinking about writing to the Dean to change our room but I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my school career!) and the ceiling leaks in the rain, although our room is in the basement, despite that I liked classes!
We learned about nursing theories and theorists, the nursing process, and interactive software we'll be using. It's pretty cool it's like we're on a hospital unit and have a patient and report to a nurse.
Anyway it is a little overwhelming when you get all your assignments at once even though they're spread out the whole semester.
How has everyone's first classes gone?
Have a great semester everyone!

Gross. Bring an umbrella?
I started my OB/Peds class yesterday. It was a lot of "fluff", and more of a "go over the syllabus" day more than anything. But my professors seem awesome and passionate, so I'm looking forward to future classes.

Lol might have to especially since laptops are required! I need to buy mine still, getting an asus, not bad prices.
Anyway glad you like your teachers I don't have a real good feel of mine yet. One was very helpful though staying after class just to give us study tips and things. Both of mine work in hospitals still, which had surprised me for some reason.
Good luck in ob/peds

That's great news to hear! I started my first nursing classes yesterday. We had orientation and learned that we will be covering a lot of material and we are already delving into the material this week. I love my instructors and my classmates seem to be a good bunch of folks. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. This program is going to go by really fast by the looks of it. I've been told to study hard and stay mentally rejuvenated so I don't get burned out. That would be the best advice to you that I would pass on. Hope you succeed in your journey! Best of luck :)

Mine too!! We talked a lot about statistics. Infant and mother mortality rates. I found out a lot of surprising things. Like that despite having the best medical care in the world, the US ranks 27th among industrialized countries on infant mortality rates. I was really fascinated. I like my instructor this semester for this class also. I know her tests are tough, but I think she is a super great instructor and I think I'm really going to like her for this clinical rotation also. She put a few of my natural fears to rest today. It made me happy.
There are no real peds hospitals in my county. I live close enough to Indy that they all get shipped there. You know too far away for a clinical rotation but too close for a pediatric wing to be feasible at our local hospitals. So our peds rotation is at a let's just say interesting location, which I'm not going to name on here. I think it will be quite interesting though and I am excited to do it.
So, I'm pretty excited for this upcoming semester. I wasn't sure if I would like OB, but the more I have thought about it, I'm going in and really hoping I might want to work in it at some point. I thought there might be a few things about it that I didn't think I could handle, but my mind seems to be changing a little more each day.

My first day back was today too! We jumped right in. We had about an hour of syllabus and class structure review followed by a quiz. And yes it was a real quiz. That's new. They aren't messing around this semester. We lectured on acute respiratory distress and ventilators. It was definitely an interesting day.
Good luck to all the newbies as well as those further into their programs. I hope we all have a great semester!

My first day was last Tuesday. Started off with a 7 hour skills lab. I'm only taking two courses right now: Fundamentals and A&P I. My credits didn't transfer, so I'm re-taking A&P. Though I can't really say it's a bad thing as it's more in depth and there's a lot more expected of us, especially when it comes to the application of the information rather than just memorizing the facts. So I'm looking at it as being beneficial rather than being a pain to have to re-take it.
The instructors for my nursing course are amazing. I truly enjoy them, so far. They are very approachable and have really made skills lab and lecture informative and enjoyable.
We had our first quiz in A&P this evening, the first exam will be next Wednesday, and a research paper due the 14th. I have a math quiz in Fundamentals on the 4th with the first exam following on the 11th, our vital sign check offs on the 15th, and a med term quiz on the 18th. Yes, I've memorized my syllabus enough to have those etched in my mind.
My main thing right now is trying to find a schedule for what to do and study when. I still feel kind of all over the place, though I'm starting to get an idea of what will work. Though I still have to figure out the best way for me to read my books as I'm a slow reader, and I spend more time trying to get through one chapter than anything else.

If the teacher is that cool see if you can do a on grounds or theater class until the construction ends or the Dean.

Required for what? Does it have to be a laptop or does a tablet suffice?
