My experience with the TEAS V

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Today I took my TEAS V, and it was horrible! I have also taken the TEAS IV and I have to say, that one was WAY easier.

The science portion on the TEAS V was just insane. I studied the offical study guide for a month and once I started that portion I felt like I hadn't looked at a thing. There were things on there that were NOT covered in the study guide. I had also gotten a few other books to help with the science section and even with the extra help, I felt like a complete idiot. I have never felt so defeated in my life.

What really sucks is my school uses a points system to figure out who gets into the program. They have 4 courses that are pre-reqs, and you are assigned points based on how you did in those courses. I have all A's in those classes so that's not a problem. Then they convert your section scores to points. The two language arts sections are 25% each, math is 20% and the science section is 30%. So the section worth the most points, I bombed.

To say I am heart broken, would be an understatement. I can't retake, because applications have to be turned in by April 1st, and you have to wait 30 days between testings.

Here's my suggestion for people taking this exam. Make real sure you study chemistry(I would say it accounted for over 1/2 of the exam) forwards, backwards, upside down, and loop-de-loop. Also know everything you can about cells and everything that deals with them.

I was shocked that a test that is used for entrance into a nursing program had so little A&P related questions on it.

Good luck to everyone who still has to take this exam and wish me luck that I can still get into the ADN program I am applying.

My science part was crazy.. Hahaha. Glad i passed with 72 %

Hello, I just took the science portion of the teas v and did poorly.. I too studied the study guide. Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try I have to pass it by next week in order to be accepted into the lpn program. I'm going crazy

All I studied was the science. Over and over, through and through. I still got a 75% on the science portion but my other sections were much higher to offset it. I would say just study your butt off, for much longer than a week if you can.

me too..i saw some sample questions

I was practically laughing out loud during the test. I consider myself pretty competent in most subjects and I never have experienced a test that I was so unprepared for. It was really tough. I admit I didn't study for it at all but I will say I don't think I would have known the questions I didn't know even if I had studied.

I got a 74%. Honestly, I really was happy with the score considering how I felt I didn't know the majority of the science.

It's not so hard to pass the Test, but to score a high score is a different story since science is HARD. there were a lot chemistry, A&P were everywhere ( Neuro, pancreas, kidney, bone... )

I wish I would have had some A&P on mine!

This was my experience:

I broke down each section and listed everything on my exam that was NOT in the book so you can look it up if you want to.

I just took it yesterday. A lot of science stuff was NOT covered in the ATI book. All the other sections were fully covered in the book....I think.

Good luck guys!!!

Hi, I just got my results and the science was horrible. It was way more difficult that what I was expecting, I don't even remember seeing some of those questions in the manual. The balance equations question was laughable easy, but questions relating to body systems and how they interact were way more confusing and way less clarity than the practice exams. I hope this helps.

Also, for the sake of time, there is a mark button which I didn't begin to utilize until the end of the exam. It allows you to go back and review a question PER SECTION if you have extra time left over. Good luck!
