My ex 25 weeker gets blue hands and feet

Specialties NICU

Hi

Jacob (a 25 weeker) is almost 10 months old and has been home from the hosptital for 4 months now. He came home on 1 litre of O2, and that was gradually weaned to 0.2 quite recently. My question is "what causes blue hands and feet"? I notice that quite often that this will happen to Jacob - his nose will also turn this colour too. Over the winter Jacob was in PICU for 5 weeks due to a severe case of RSV, while there he had a host of problems including pulmonary hypertension and heart failure. I wonder if this could be an after effect of that?

What does the doctor say? That would worry me a bit.

He could simply be cold. My preemies would turn blue if they were too cold. I would wrap them up & check them again a little later & their color would be normal.

That sounds like a low sat...but I can't really assess him thru the computer...you need to go to the peds with that!

With a history of heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, I wouldn't take any chances. Take him to the doctor, okay?
