My dilemma with Pharm

Nursing Students General Students

Published

1. Using the nursing process how can I study Pharm.

2.I noticed most NCLEX/Practice questions clearly wants us to know the s/e, a/e, drug to drug etc of each drug in their respective classes. I could easily tell from the name of the class the purpose of the drug.....but here's where it gets worrisome how in the world can I remember or know the names of all the drugs and its potential problems.

Pls Help. I need some powerful tips to overcome my mental block and start studying the right way. Thanks.

This sounds strange, but when I worked as a pharmacy tech, I put them in order by class study each class and associate the drug with the purpose. (Like for me an example would be Ambien= Am (morning) Bien (spanish word for good....so good morning clicked in my head and I'd think of sleeping well at night and waking up happy with a good morning). Sounds stupid I know, but that works for me with everything else. You just need to come up and "invent and be creative" what works for you. Some you could dissect by its prefix and suffix while others you can associate with something. The generics think of the active ingridient etc.

I am sure everyone else could give you much better advice and study tips, so I wish you the best of luck. :)

When we go to clinicals part of our prep is looking up the drugs our patients are on and noting any interactions, contraindications, and nursing interventions. I have learned a lot more doing that than I did in Pharm. I think that by the time you are done with nursing school and clinicals you will know a lot of drugs from repetition.
